Greedy Pigeon by jmborden

[raw]
made by jmborden for LD 38 (JAM)

The Greedy Pigeon takes the tips and leaves a mess in this Q*bert clone. Control the Greedy Pigeon with the WASD or Arrow Keys. Beware the sweeping broom and the boot of doom in 10 levels of gameplay!

Jam Version : https://jborden.github.io/ld38/

Post-Jam Version: https://jborden.github.io/ld38_postjam/ Now with leaderboard!

Works best in Chrome

Note: Initial load takes time so you'll be stuck on the title screen for a few moments initially. Sorry, no loading status bar.. coming in Post-Jam version!

Original Version is fully playable, however Post-Jam has a flatter difficulty curve and minor UI changes. As part of an ongoing process, I will be adding all of the great assets and animations created by Hassan into the game that there just wasn't time for in the jam!

I absolutely love the a capella soundtrack. The game over sound is really nice too. The graphics are also good, but they could use some more animation. The gameplay isn't amazingly fun, but it's functional and is enjoyable enough. I think you could probably explain it a bit more for people who haven't played Q'Bert, though.

Thank you all for the feedback, I can't believe people are already finding this game!

Hassan is a brilliant musician, producer, audio engineer and digital artist. I am happy to see that you all enjoy his music and sound effects!

@veralos - I would appreciate any feedback to better explain gameplay. The original Q*bert used interlude animations for exposition. Hard to top that in the time allotted, but I would appreciate any kind of supplementary text that you think would help players. Thanks!

I like the idea of using all A Capella music, and the gameplay is fun, although the buttons aren't very intuitive in my opinion.

Ahahaha nice. Very strange concept, but you managed to pull it off! I liked the music, though the controls were a bit tough to get used to. Great job! :)

That broom is always camping 2-3 bottom right tables and it's hard to step on them without being hit >_<

Game is simple, but nice, audio is definitely the best part. It's pretty good overall, but probably doesn't suit theme much.

I played this on Livestream a Few Days Ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uiOC3F43xF0

Solid base game, I found it pretty funny and I'm not easy to make laugh. "OH NO!" - I lost my crap at that far too often.

I loved the soundtrack, and audio in general. Graphics were nice and flashy (like I feel like they should be). The game itself feels very complete and polished, my only problems were that I struggled with hitting the right buttons to go in the direction I wanted, although this may be just because I have never played QBert!

The audio felt smooth and nice, I had some problems getting along with the controllers really, It's pretty obvious what to press when you look at the manual, but when in the game it didn't feel natural, other than that it felt complete and nice! Great job!

Pretty good, interesting music, fun gameplay could do with more levels / more enemy types, pretty challenging. Nice job.

Soundtrack made me think of Bill Wurtz's music style, loved it ! I had some troubles with the controls, very tough to get used to but your game is based on a fun idea. Nice work !
