RoadRover by Bisher.d790

[raw]
made by Bisher.d790 for LD 41 (JAM)

WhatsApp Image 2018-04-24 at 2.40.18 PM.jpeg 2.png 1.png A combination between shooter and racing games. The initial concept was RocketLeague, I took the idea and had some idea to it, the game went through a project creep, but it is more than I expected. You are a car that can shoot plasma projectiles and you are chased by enemy car which are spawned by factories, this mode is only survival (couldn't do much because of the time). RoadRover is 6-minute game, so please engage and have some fun.

[Instructions]:

Don't Die!.

[Controls]: mouse = aim & shoot

w a s d = controls

alt = Handbrake

space = Jump !.

Disclaimer: the game is considered unfinished, I implemented a survival mode instead of reach-the-point mode because of the time remaining in the jam.

All these pictures are actual in game footage.

Credits: THIS GAME WAS CREATED during LD41, in MMU MALAYSIA LDJAM Site.

Have Fun!!

Wow, that was a lot of fun! The controls of the car could used tightened a bit as I had a heck of a time moving around (so mostly I just stayed in one spot and shot at other cars, ha ha) but for a three day project this is outstanding! Hope you take it further, there's a lot of good stuff here to build on. :) Congrats!

You made this on your own?! I LOVE IT!!!! I love this! The graphics are amazing, the sound effects are good (although they did overlap sometimes). The gameplay was awesome!

I have a few things to point out:
I accidentally got stuck in an enemy spawner, but managed to wiggle my way out again!
I flew up in the air once, I have no idea why.
Please keep on working on this, and when this has been improved further, contact me! I will play this again! This game was better than many, many games that I've played.

I had a blast.

I don't think any enemies spawned when I played, so it was just a simple race with a machine gun, but nothing to shoot at! Regardless, the game looks great! The driving feels a tad slippery but other then that, it was quite fun to go around

I've always wanted to play a game like this, and now I can! I feel there's a very solid concept for a game here, but the controls felt a little too tight (despite what everyone's saying about slipperiness). A single tap of the turn button would make me do a 90 degree turn right of the road. I can't be the best judge of this, since it ran kind of poorly on my aging laptop, but the graphics look pretty sweet, and the music suits the game well.

If you do take this game further (which I think you totally should), I would make the road a bit wider to it's harder to fall off it, and maybe change the aiming sight from an arrow to a full-on laser for better accuracy.

The game is very polished and pretty fun. The graphics are amazing, good work on this. I would like to suggest to remove the depth of field of pos-effect, it is pretty annoying. Good job!

Please, take a look at my game too: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/confessional

A fun little entry, but my play experience was hampered by a couple of things.

As others have mentioned, the depth of field effect is pretty intense. It made me kind of sick whenever I picked up some speed.

Vehicle handling still seems a little off. The extreme shift in control when on dirt vs rock doesn't feel right.

I encountered a bug where if there was any kind of mouse motion when I died, this would continue onto the restarted game, causing my aim to constantly point down.

There's also major slow downs whenever there are more than a handful of enemies spawned.

Good work though. For a one man team you accomplished a lot in the given time!

Looks awesome! I'm really not sure what to do or where to go. Some of the further ladscape blinks sometimes.
It was super fun to race while shooting other cars. It feels like the foundations of an awesome sci-fi game!
Congratulations!

Good game but very difficult to control.

Man, that was fun!! Those last 20 seconds had my heart thumping. As others have already mentioned, turning with the vehicle is too sensitive, and the depth of field is a bit hard on the eyes, but, wow, this game is cool. Good job!

Woah, what a great game - It looked absolutely great on stream!

I loved how hectic the gameplay was, survive survive suvive! The lights shining from the bomb cars were a great touch too and really made it scary seeing them come.

One thing I found was that it would lag at times, maybe have a smaller car limit to stop this?

Possibly a charging peroid on how many energy bolts the car can fire, I could just spam it to win.

Other than that, an excellent play!

wow the art is amazing- I think the better among the others! The controls are a bit hard to manage.

Great looking game with some nice driving physics :)

Give this one a try, might not look as good but it's my first attempt :)

It's a good start and driving feels pretty good. I agree with what other people said about the very shallow DoF.

In one playthrough I got stuck in a ditch and couldn't move at all.

Good job on the graphics! However, I'm getting some serious frame drops, and the intense DoF makes it hard to see anything. And the genres don't feel that incompatible tbh.
Beside that, handling feels right and the game seems well polished, nice work!

Maybe you could solve some of the DoF issue by updating its focus to wherever the player is looking, as it is right now it detracts from the experience more than it helps.
