Pre Alpha Build by PlusMinus
PAB is a simple base-builder with random generated buildings' forms.
We didn't manage to finish everything in time, even though we have most of assets ready.
There are some troubles with interface, so open it fullscreen please.

And some tips:
Upgrades don't upgrade your built buildings. Destroy them if you want to free the space for better buildings.
There is no repairment.
Rotate during building with a rotate button or 'r'.
Left shift to build multiple buildings.
There is no help for you this time.

last link is unfixed build.

Thanks for making me laugh with the "help" button. Also ,love the pixel art.
Nice work!
Graphics are for sure the strongest driving force for this game. Nicely done artist!
Theme is very well implemented and the game is innovating.
It really needs some sound effects for the turrets and the enemies to give much needed feedback on whats going on. For example scorpions stop animating when they attack. At one point I thought the game crashed. Music is awesome Synthwave stuff. There seems to be multiple tracks of music? Nice, but that's not alone carrying the audio side of the game unfortunately.
Help button says NOPE to me! WTF help button, you are not very helpful!
Would be nice to have a button that would change the shape of the building as a keyboard key, like R is for rotate. Maybe pause key also. Just a personal preference.
The building HP isn't displaying in real time, so the player needs to click on the building again to refresh the HP.
Sometimes I ended up resource buildings all destroyed but got decent defenses up. Maybe destroying the building yourself could refund some resources? Or there could be very slight resource generation by default.
I hope the building block would stay with the cursor after I place the building, so that I could quickly build multiple similar buildings. Now you need to click the building icon again every time.
Both the enemy variation and building variation seems good. Had to have rocket launcher for the tanks and blast cannon for the fast horde of enemies. Yet I don't know what the expensive laboratory does.
One enemy from the top were shooting my wall off screen where turrets couldn't fire back. It kept shooting my wall for like 2 minutes, giving me unfair time to generate resource.
Overall, I give this game quite high score. Well done!
im unbeatable!! also, those doors very often don't fully open. so I can't get to the destroy button.
Overall - awesome game!
As I went commenting here and other places, I let the game run in the background. Here's the result. RAM used over 2Ggigs
Few bugs in UI, but i like it.
As for production, I don't think we'll do it for now. May be later. We have our projects.
Also play and rate my game at(if you want):
https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/42/evolucity-build-as-high-as-you-can
The concept is to be explored, it's obvious you didn't have time to balance the gameplay, but it's a good try.
Great game guys, i know how hard it can be to be working on a small team with big ambitions ;)
I like this game
If you have some time, you can play and rate my puzzle game https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/42/dont-mess-up
Had this base running in the background for around 2 hours while I played and rated other games hehe :)

- The rotation controls are bad. A single button to rotate or a keyboard key to rotate is what you need. Individual rotation buttons per building is silly and cumbersome.
- The help > nope button... But why?
- I assume that the shots turning in mid-flight is a bug.
- If you build stuff, you're pretty much set to not die for a while. There's little sense of urgency in progression. The balance is off but I guess that's a long term problem.
- I couldn't really tell much about the two resources the game seems to have. Resource generation is not visualised.
LOVE the art. Cleaning up the core gameplay and it could have great potential.
1) there is 'r' hotkey and every buttons do the same form everyone. There are a lot of them so people would notice there is the possibility :D
2) not enough time
3) yep. thanks to enemy pool :)
4) not enough time to balance :D
5) Well, there are solar panels on energy farm. and metal plant is like a lot of smelters.
I like the beatiful graphics.
Game feels very polished for being pre-alpha. The buildings, menus and enemies all look great.
It's a bit too easy for a stretch before the enemy hordes get really large.
pieces are hard to fit together but offers a great challenge
Artwork is definitely amazing to look at, well done artist or art team.
Great entry and interesting idea on the theme!
The gameplay is fun - it gets very exciting hoping your Blast Cannons shoot the enemies that are close so you can build something where they are etc.
It was very ambiguous why/how much of the resources I was generating, and sometimes it was unclear why I couldn't place a building in a certain spot.
The graphics are so good I would like something more zoomed in version, like your first screenshot!
Seriously though, this game suffers from a lack of information. You spend you first couple of plays learning what each building does. I'm still not entirely sure how the lab works; it mentions a farm... what farm?
The graphics are great and the sound is pretty good too. The game is fun too but help your players out.
The music was good, the sounds were decent and the presentation was good! The game itself has no end so with that in mind, I think the balance was about right and I got about 3700 points on my best run (third try).
It isn't always easy to know why I can't upgrade certain things in the lab, despite having the required resources. Maybe I need some other upgrades first (Seems to be the case) or the cost is different from the cost that is displayed.
I honestly think this is one of the most solid LD entries I have played (so out of about 100 LD games). It is probably my favourite puzzle game from any LD.
(And I laughed when I pressed the help button and got "Nope".)
in terms of innovation i didn't quite see anything i haven't seen before, i also felt the lack of an actual tutorial was also annoying, if there are hidden controls past the press R to rotate than i have no idea. hell i didn't even know the laboratory was for upgrading until i saw a your 'tips' which is actually just how to play the game itself? kind of a d*** move...
Now that the peeves are out of the way, i love tower defenses! and this was fun and it totally fit the theme! awesome art and the music was good to listen to also! Good job!
Good stuff :8ball:
The difficulty could be a little better adjusted but the concept works very well and respects the theme of the Jam! Good game!
Good Job!
The game is a very pleasant experience, absolutely well done.
A very solid experience, great job on making that game!
One of the best games I played. Very well done!
I got stuck when buildings wouldn't build anymore altough I had the money, what's the issue ?
Anyway it's an excellent entry, well done !

default master volume is 30%, so people wouldn't be stunned if they set their other volume settings to maximum and forgot about it.
Totally a great use of the theme, and the fact that the buildings are randomized (so you can't really develop a perfect strategy over multiple games) is brilliant.
Great job!
Cool concept, using tetris as space to build, and change every new game. Visual is good and have good fun. Don't have anything more to say.
Nice game!!!

*"Houston, we have a problem."*
The art and audio are :kissing_cat: Very nice job!

Missed opportunity with sound effects, the increase spawn and cannons could really lend itself nicely to some very very simple and short blast sfx sounds. I did like the music however
But awesome game, with an upgrade system it would be a joy to play.
Хочется увидеть развитие этой идеи и поиграть в полный проект)
Good game.
@player-2 if there would be 9x9 instead of 10x10, it would be too hard for a jam)
The only thing that made me "eh..." was the GameOver screen! The graphic is fantastic, but when you die you get that 'more than basic' "GameOver + Score" panel!
I think a useful improvement would be a border between buildings, so it's easier to see what you've got in play, especially when you have multiple of the same building rammed together.
But overall I loved the game, even if I did really poorly at it.
Characters, musics, sounds make a set. It's original.
the concept to rotate building is cool.
Animations are really fun.
Overall great job!
Edit: Just read that you can rotate. Oops! I guess I missed that.
Have fun out there
the Tetris/BaseBuilding mix fit's the the theme very well, great work!
well done on your entry
The good
Graphics are spot on ( menu, front screen, explosions) you did that in just 3 days wow!!
Sounds
Gameplay
I do agree with some of the feedback you have already received, It does not tell me how well i did as compared to last time ( score or timer maybe). At the end I was swarmed with such a huge group which was impossible to defeat ( or maybe I missed on something :). Game definitely has potential with building upgrades, scoring system.
Good job.
It's a really nice one, congratulations!
Cool music and mechanics!
Mechanics, graphics and sounds are on point!
The game feel polished too.
Great job.
This was as good as I could've came up with 14k score :D Thanks for the fun! Great build!
Arts and SFX/music are great, what I really liked is how you designed the interface in a clever way to make you work less (with the minerals and energy ressources directly linked to the amount needed to build up something for instance). I didn't especially feel like I was running out of space during my two playthrough, but seeing other players' screenshots, I feel like I must have been doing something wrong :P
Also, the shapes are incredibly boring, thus making the game quite fun !
Good job !!
Super game with nice graphics ;)

The graphic is good but some litte detais messy this buid: Configurations with standard ui unity art. And enemies dont flip when rushing from the left side.
I'm still not sure what some of the buildings do. I'm assuming that the smelter and solar give you more building materials, but what does the lab do?
Again gotta say, great game. Most fun game I've played in this dare 42!!
came back to it again tonight, because I was itching to get more of a mastery, and realized that I can use R to rotate, and Shift to build multiple buildings!!! WOAH! GAME CHANGER!!!
I can't believe i scored 16.5k last night without knowing those 2 hotkeys, but uh....... I broke the game tonight! XD I was guessing that game would crash sooner or later, because I was loading around 3 frames in 10 seconds, and unfortunately I didnt get to screenshot my final score, because it did crash. Just for your development reference, I'm using an i5 8400...
Seriously though, great job on creating a challenging game, that is genuinely rewarding, and well balanced!! Kudos! Looking forward to the final version guys!
thank you for your reviews :)
Pros :
- Strong concept, almost flawlessly executed and thematically adequate
- Nothing gives me more joy than mixel art that crisp
- Great soundtrack makes for a great "end of the world" mood
- In my opinion, balanced difficulty curve
- "Help ? Nope."
Cons :
- Some form of in-game tutorial would be very helpful
Anyway, that's an awesome entry, that could totally be polished into a releasable game.
Good job devs!
Holy cow that was a lot of enemies! Awesome music, cool SFX and art. The game balancing was a little weak, but I feel that's the case for a lot of game jams, it's hard to get it right with such little testing. Good job on the theme, and the variety of buildings and enemies as well. Nice job!
Great work!!
By the way please feel free to leave us some feedbacks on our game!
Gameplay wise also quite nice, had to really search to find that 'r' was rotate (right mouse button would have worked nicely too)
That a replay had different building shapes was a cool touch - mixes it up. (but likely harder to balance)
The only gripe I really have is that the walls are prohibitively expensive. Would have expected them to be cheapest, instead they are the most expensive per tile?
Do try and create a post-compo version, would love to see it.
Art is superb, lots of different assets, well animated and all consistent in style, awesome!
Audio incredible, fits well and builds a great atmosphere.
Gameplay fun and interesting with a nice difficulty curve to keep you going back. My one gripe was being unable to place buildings over enemies as once a lot of enemies were in your base, there was very little you could do to counter them.
Theme is clearly great here as I was indeed constantly running out of space! Who would've thought!
