HELL by Smeax
Oooooookay. The game is about a little dude who has to fight his way through a ton of enemies. But the devil is a fair guy. He offers him new weapons every round. But. He has to scarafise some of his abilities for the next round. That's the price to pay.
How to play?
- Kill all enemies
- Choose what you want to sacrafise to the devil
- Get new guns
- Whatch your ammo, it is limited
The game is not even close to be finished at all :D I had only like two days for this, maybe 10 - 15 hours of work. So don't expect too much :D All of this was made by myself except for the background music (there was no time) so I put this out of the votings if this is possible. I wanted to implement way more perks and weapons to choose but again, there was no time :( But all in all I'm quiet happy how it turned out in the end. So I hope you enjoy playing! Thank you!
There is a bug where you can get the same weapons and perks to choose, but I will fix this in a post jam version :)

Thank you for playing!! :)

Nice Work!
I would have added a roll mechanic to make it more dynamic, but the game is pretty awesome. One of my favourites! Congrats!
- BGM is funky and appropriate.
- Different enemy types are interesting.
- Having to spam click to shoot can get tiring, I would have preferred being able to hold-to-shoot.
- Maybe explore allowing the player to keep their current weapon and not have to make a sacrifice. As long as eventually their starting weapon isn't good enough!
My favourite game so far. Kudos.
Good job!
The (I assume) randomized chests gave me two of the same option one round to take a rifle with half damage, and that particular selection is drastically underpowered, I think. I got overwhelmed very quickly despite landing most hits, and ran out of bullets.
In all seriousness, this is so polished and so crisp, it gets so many high ratings from me.
Movement speed down is really bad.
Nailed it :D You did a really good job!
The only thing that bothered me is that at the end of the round I got the same option twice... It sucks to really have no option to choose since both are the same.
But hey. As I said this game is awesome. Congratulations!
Could you please stop spamming on the front page?
This is definitely not healthy for the community.
The art design remind me of Enter the Gungeon.
The game design is not that creative, but it's still a great game! Nice job.
Looks like this game is pretty popular, if you feel like giving back, consider leaving constructive feedback on people's entries, there's a lot of insight in this you could pass on to others. Well done!
This is your game too. This entry seems quite a clear example of re-skinning the core of an old project and tweaking for a game jam.
Posting anon as don't want to draw negative attention for calling this sorta bullsh*t out.
And posting anon as you don't want to draw negative attention? If you call someone out to be cheating or whatever you want to call that you should stand by that statement and not hide behind anonymous.
Another interesting comparison with your prev LD entry and One:

I'll start by the gameplay / mechanics, I didn't notice any problem or bug. The gameplay is pretty smooth and the "upgrades" seem to do what they're supposed to. Some combination let you stay pretty dangerous for the mobs. I usually didn't take anything reducing damages or boosting mobs' life, letting me kill multiple of them at once by focusing on the exploding ones. ^^
Adding a button to quit the game would be a useful addition, especially since the game launches itself in fullscreen (at least for me), I had to press ALT+ENTER(/return) to switch to windowed mode.
The graphics are pretty cool, I really liked this art style, it reminded me of some newground games I loved and spent hours & hours on back in the days. I assumed games were better when they used all the "game window" but games like yours prove me it can be great to have the game centered and moving the camera around the arena like that. Oh and the effects when you shoot, etc... are a great touch to the game. It really adds to the experience in my opinion.
As for the musics & sounds, it's nice! It goes really well with the game, it's the kind of soundtrack that helps you score in the game. The sound effects are also correct. I would just add a way to mute / lower the volume directly in game, that way, the player can continue his shooting while he lowers the volume, avoiding the risk of quitting the game and not coming back to it.
Anyway, I think I went pretty far after multiple runs, that was a fun game. o/
> "It’s not allowed to make another shoot em up for a jam?"
This is *clearly* not the issue. I think people were confounded by the fact that you did not disclose what you made for this LD and what was pre-existing. To be fair, I think you did nothing wrong as far as the rules go. You absolutely are allowed to use *anything* pre-existing in the Jam.
The problem here is that there is that neither the rules nor the submission form say anything about declaring what was part of the Jam and what was not. This is not your fault, and clearly most of the people who voted for this do not care one way or the other (in my experience people don't even care if it's Compo or Jam, at least that's what I heard several streamers say).
Personally, I do think this entry is a bit misleading, but at the same time you can't really take someone to task for not adhering to unspoken rules - and rules that most of the community doesn't care about in any case. I do think there should be guidance to the effect that encourages people do declare this more clearly, and to make them opt out of any categories where they didn't make any content, but again that's just my personal preference.

It would be fair to the other contestants, if you were totally honest and open, that you took the codebase of "One", modified some sprites and added a few lines of gameplay. The implementation of the theme is really cool and I'm sure you learned a lot towards the continuation of "One".
Other developers pour their heart into this game jam. They have 72 hours to develop a game and a lot of people take that time, hardly sleep and barely make it to release a polished game, yet here you are developing for "10 to 15 hours" and have a finished game. It just doesn't seem fair.
The graphics are great, the game fits the theme, and its not stupidly difficult. Nice array of bad guys and weapons, and the choices you make mean the game plays differently each time. Well done. I enjoyed that :)
But would like to have some more "sacrifice" alternatives. Sometimes you can only pick one thing.
Beautiful aesthetics, seems like you payed attention to details. Nice job
