Fourteen by JoaoP
Updated Version: In order to follow the rules of the jam the update only has bug fixes, clearer UI and clearer levels that help the player to better understand the mechanics and progress through the level. It also has a better resolution. I recommend that version
Fourteen is a action-platformer where the player starts the game trapped inside enemy facility, after successfully stealing the R.G.E.
Progress through the levels and challenges to escape from the facility and claim the R.G.E. for yourself.
Every time:
you die;
you kill something;
an enemy dies;
The enemy get's it's damage increased and it's reload time decreased.
Your weapons are powered by R.G.E.. You have a shotgun, and a deflector shield. You use the shotgun to kill enemies if you wish, and the deflector shield can deflect enemy bullets.
You need to get the keys to advance through the levels.
Don't let the chaos consume you before you escape the facility.
This game was created for the Ludum Dare 40.
Apart from the background music all assets were made by me.
Thank you for playing the game.

I did not understand, however, the mechanics of the difficulty increase and how it was related to the theme.
The controls are really tight, the level design is good. Overall, the game just feels right. I played the non updated version and the fact that the path is marked was sometimes a bit counter intuitive (like in the first or second level I was bit lost at first when you have to go get the token). The double jump mechanic was a bit obscure at first too.
The difficulty mechanic is a bit rough. I think that's how you implemented it : the more you die, the harder the game. It's was a frustrating.
Once you get the hang of it, it's not that bad tho.
The thing that annoyed me the most was jumping in tight spots, I felt like sometimes the jump was a bit too powerfull to really control where you want to go.
But overall it is a great entry ! Congratulations !

Thanks for being part of the stream :)
(edited to correct video, sorry)
Look forward to seeing what this could become if you continue working on it.
I still finished it and it felt like a game you could continue, the only thing was that i did not notice any difference from increasing enemy damage so i killed everything like a madman. Nice job!
