What an incredible way to combine two incompatible genres. I love how two distinct genres come together to create something more than the sum of their parts. The game feels solid and looks great. The music finishes it off. Very well done.

Wow! I'm impressed, it's overall the best game I've played in LD41 so far - I love the concept and your take on "incompatible genres", I wish I had this idea :D

The game feels very polished - movement, controls, all feel just right. Great game.

Love the idea, really well executed. Controls are a bit sub-optimal on a non-english key layout (when Z and Y are swapped). Transition between views makes it always clear which one you are. Love it

Wow! Really fun, an amazing art style, and an awesome usage of the theme. I want more!

The movement and controls felt smooth and nice. Great combination too :-)
Got to about level 4 before I rage quited, but it was fun :-D
Nicely done, great job!

Excellent stuff! The combination of the genres is great, and I love the way the puzzles are designed to work with it. Pretty good music too, and I like the graphics. I'd point out that the performance is irregular at least in the browser version (especially as Topdee), and that the enemies as Topdee are fast enough that puzzles with them are difficult to do without switching back and forth all the time, but excluding those kinks, it's an amazing game, and a success in every aspect. (I'd honestly buy something like this expanded to a full game)

Yeah, okay, this is the coolest thing I've seen on here

So many novel game strategy decisions, you get to be the platformer's guardian angel when you freeze time and move the platform for him

The art, fx, audio, theme, everything is just on point. didn't see ANY bugs either. great job guys

There's a lot to like about this game. The art, sounds, and mood are cute, enjoyable and polished to fit its desired theme. The movement is smooth and the interface is simple. The levels are clever and the core mechanic of the game (the switching) even more so! The control scheme is also very easy to use. I'm really impressed with every aspect of this game. You guys knocked it out of the park -- fantastic job!

This was an awesome take on the jam theme. I think you really nailed puzzel design. I was particularly impressed with the visual effects of switching between top down and side scroller. Really very executed!

I fucking love this concept. It is so original and so incredibly well worked out. So so good. Good job man. Only nitpicky thing I have about this game is that the characters move ridiculously fast (might be something delta time related? On my buddy's PC every thing is moving way slower making it a lot easier to play with the characters). Never the less, amazing game and amazingly well worked out. Didn't find the semi colon though :(

24. Apr 2018 · 16:03 UTC
Yeah I figured it out what causes the super quick movement of the characters. It has to do with the monitor that the game is played on. Played the game first on my 120hz screen, and there everything is super quick. When I try it on my 60hz screen, the speed of the characters is normal. Maybe you can fix that in a post-jam update to your game? afaik that's completely allowed. Really cool game, still!

Other than the movement issue, which I think you should fix and reupload. lol, it's pretty great! The swapping mechanic is really really smooth and definitely unique. Nice work!

Truly very nice. Enjoyed this one a lot and so far one of my favorites! Everything just works and the puzzles done in very understandable way. The Blue one reminds me one of Happy Tree Friends characters :) Really good job! Love the Ending!

Great mash up, a very literal combination with the story, the "switch gameplay" is classic in a way, but using two different genres in this way was innovative and made for some really interesting puzzles. Played it all from start to finish, never got to hard, but still had some real challenges. Great game!

To me, this is easily the winner. This is absolutely astounding. The atmosphere warmed my heart, I loved the feeling TopDee was always there to save TooDee if something went wrong. The music was amazing, the graphics spot on. I wish all the best to you both in your game making futures!

This is a really great concept. My main gripe is that I'm not a big fan of redoing entire levels because of a spike death. Still, the art and music are really great and overall you did so well with this.

This is definitely one of the best games I've played so far - it does a lot with the theme, and creates a super cool foundation for really sophisticated level design. I hope you continue to work on this. The character animations and timing could use some polish, and it might make sense not to put the jump/push button right next to the switch players button (I hit switch players by accident a few times). The music is incredible. I'm going to keep watching this one. <3

A really interesting idea. When I was dreaming up a combo, I split genres into form and content and tried to match them as badly as possible... But matching the forms? Genius. (My game turned out completely different, if you find the time I'd be glad if you could give it a spin: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/cruise-co)

Enjoyed the game, beat all the levels, it could be made potentionally longer, because currently it introduces a new mechanic almost every level. Graphics are cute, but controls are bit clunky for the platformer part. Liked the ending conclusion ;D Great job!

26. Apr 2018 · 00:05 UTC
Possibly my two favourite genres mixed into one. Masterfully crafted. I feel like the second level should be a lot easier when toodee and topdee are together to slowly ease the player in the more difficult challenges that await. Other than that, you can't fault this

Great game!
Only thing is the platforming controls aren't too tight/easy to control, could be a bit frustrating having to restart a level due to missing a jump.

26. Apr 2018 · 10:48 UTC
This is probably the best use of the theme so far, as it takes it down to the story level. Controls and gameplay were also very good, but the levels where you have to make platforms for Twodee were way too annoying since you had to reconstruct them after each missed jump.

26. Apr 2018 · 19:29 UTC
Very, very, very cool. I really love the switching mechanic, how seamless if feels, and how it changes the gameplay in an instance. Very well done. My only suggestions are: allow space to be JUMP, mixed about having to hold a button to push (maybe offer a toggle?) it works but maybe not having to makes the game a little faster, and may be doing auto-switching when one character has made it to the portal and is no longer needed to complete the puzzles (though this may be too much of an ask :P)

An amazing game, definitely high score on inovation since you conbined literaly 2 spaces into a game (2d and 3D in isometric projection). Realy great job! Keep on going, upgrade you game concept even more and you will defenitely see your game on the market, like steam (if you add it, just saying). ;)

Wow, this concept! It's very amazing. It's cool to play, to see different levels and reach them.

But, I have the feeling that the game is lagging because the characters are very slow compared to your gif...

Very cool game and concept!

GREAT concept! Good level design and clever little puzzles. Super nice atmosphere and as well.

It did get a bit too hard for me a bit too quickly, and it was frustrating setting things up again after failing a platforming game, but on the other hand it did add to the tension.

I got to say, out of the more than 45 games I played, this game is easily one of the best. It has a great self contained story which builds up to a hilarious punch line. Great level design which introduces each mechanic, so that the player understands when he completes a level. Great music and art, which help to blend these things together. Great work, you deserve it. You may want to release a full game of this.

Fantastic mechanics, so far the best I've ever seen. The level design is at a very high level, above the level of the jam and many games I know. The art is simple but very nice. I hope to see this game among the best.

I left my rating of your game, if you can leave your feedback in our game, Witch's Escape.

I hope you continue with the project.

Amazing! But one thing that frustrated me is the level resetting every time I die. I think you could just respawn the character in his start position, keeping the current state of the level, so I don't need to repeat all the same stuff over and over just because I missed a jump.

5 stars! When I swapped between 2D and top-D to bypass a gap, I felt clever! If you continue to develop this, when I moved with Topdee and ended up in between tiles and couldn't pass through a gap that was one tile wide, I felt a bit ungainly.

Your game is just amazing! Great game design, level design and execution. It felt really good to discover new ways to cross the mechanics and always satisfying to solve the puzzles. I guess you're right in the end. With the proper game design, any mix of genres can work well together.
I loved the tiny bits of humor, starting with their names. The characters look simple drawn but are actually well made and well animated. Graphics in general are simple but effective. Music was also good, it looked so much Topdee was dancing to it in his first appearance. Liked the sound effects as well, just maybe could have more of them.

Please keep up the great work!

Such a top notch game! I came here after playing INSiTU which I found on the front page, and you too had commented on it, claiming your game was similar. Indeed it was! Yet it played quite differently despite the same main mechanic, which was really cool. I guess it was the splitting of characters that did it, since otherwise the entries really were overwhelmingly alike, down to the focus on crate pushing!

Unfortunately I thought I'd bumped into a bug at the same place that @bartosz screenshot above, so I turned the game off. Reading the response to their reply, I realise that the level is actually supposed to be like that and beatable. I was just about to go to bed after playing this one, so unfortunately I'm too tired to restart the game and replay every level up to that point, but I've honestly seen (and heard) enough to have a thoroughly positive opinion of this game. Absolutely one of my favourite entries so far!

I guess, based on the fact that the game had previously built the enemies up as instant death on touch, that it is indeed quite non-intuitive that it should be helpful in the level I got stuck on tho, so if you choose to keep working on this game post-jam it would definitely be great if you could introduce that mechanic more clearly.

Super charming to have a little story to go along with it too. Got a chuckle out of me when it straight out referenced the theme.

The music is amazing! It's just what I'd expect based on the feeling of the rest of the game and reminds me of Scribblenauts.

Graphics are really nice too and it's a super nice touch that the shadows (like of the clouds) move when the perspective changes.

Only real complaint would be the input layout. It was a bit awkward having to completely change my hand position just to restart the level or unpause at the beginning of it. Could do with some work. Also would love to play with a gamepad.

Would play an extended post jam version for sure!

Absolutely marvelous. Fantastic work! <3
