Welcome to 2019, where every game that comes out has some form of microtransactions and lootboxes. Why not take it a step further? You want to shoot an arrow? Lootbox. You want to move to a different space? Lootbox. You want to do pretty much anything? You guessed it, lootbox.

Now, you may be wondering to yourself, "How can I afford all these lootboxes, I already spent all my money on Fortnite dances!" Do not worry, for the low, low price of a small amount of your health, you can get some cash and keep the lootboxes flowing.

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR GRADING:

I didn't make the fonts, so do not factor that in to your decision on Graphics feedback.

Also I didn't make any of the sounds, but I disabled feedback for that category. (Sit on the main menu for ~6 seconds to see the full effect of the song)

UPDATE 4/30:

Some people are getting an error where the title screen buttons are blank. I think this is because I used a default Unity font for them but not every computer has the font. I am uploading a new version now that will hopefully fix it.

If the fix doesn't work for you, the 3 buttons are "Play", "Help", and "Quit" from top to bottom.

The hotbar reminds me of Minecraft :lollipop:
Really love how the game looks and feels. If it had background music it'd be perfect.

The menu buttons are empty, is that intended? Also it took me a long time to figure out that I had to press ESC to see the shop. I started slowly losing any ability to do anything. It was a painful death.

Would 100% love this game turn into an actual game fully developed game. I'd buy it!

Thanks everyone for the feedback!

@nico-the-pro Which menu buttons were empty? Was it just the title screen or also the shop?
That is a good point about the lack of prompt telling you to go to the shop, this is my 7th LD and every time I somehow forget to make any tutorial/help screen until the last 10 minutes before turning it in.

You've got stylish graphics, and that's an interesting take on connecting money and health. I'm not sure the idea of counting and planning your movements works well with real time fighting against enemies not bounded with the grid, though.

@matthew-mcclure just the title screen buttons were empty. Btw this is my first LD and my second game jam in general.

@mario-marinelli That is intentional. You have limited 'moves' in each direction (shown in bottom left corner) and can get more my hitting ESC and going to the store.

I needed to make it clearer in game but I ran out of time.

Love the concept. Really fits the theme well, and the game has a good mix of the real-time dungeon shooter genre and something more tactical like a board game. The number of options for purchases were good, and the loot box aspect really added a lot to strategize around. The health gain rate was well balanced with the enemy damage and the cost of upkeep. It's got the Minecraft style infinite mining feel to it.

Things to improve:

- Enemies being simple and infinite makes camping to farm hearts the best strategy. You can get infinite health and money this way. A time limit, a limit on enemy heart drops, or some different types of more aggressive enemies could fix this.

- Some of the upgraded arrows were never very effective like the fire and diamond ones.

- I want bulk discounts on dollars!

@gentel Thanks for the suggestions! I was originally planning on adding some sort of mechanic to force you to keep completing levels (like the ghost from Spelunky if you've played that), but I ran out of time.

I definitely agree on some of the arrows needing improvement. I thought about removing those two but decided to keep them because having them in the loot pool makes the good arrows more rare.

Cute concept, though I didn't manage to get far enough to really explore all the mechanics.

This is a neat game - I wasn't able to get very far, I wish it ramped up so that I could start with learning and then move on to challenge. Regardless, a lot of thought and effort went into this, what a cool game!

Nice job!

Very Cool theme song. I wish it was playing in the background during the game. Nice systems that fit the theme great.

Everything is good, but at the end of the game there is no challenge.
And it would be cool to see several types of enemies, bosses.

Nice entry! I got a little frustrating about no being able to move all of the sudden.

YOU WENT TOO FAR WITH THESE LOOTBOXES! :stuck_out_tongue:

I really liked the ar and it would be nice to have a few more SFX and music.
