made by Temsei for LD 44 (JAM)

In a world where bullets are somehow directly correlated with your lifespan, comes an infinite shooter that puts your video gaming skills to the test!

Every bullet you shoot is a year out of your life. Fortunately, enemies will drop years upon their deaths for you to collect, and years you gain can be used to purchase upgrades to make your stand against time more effective!

Overview - Infinite waves with an ever-increasing difficulty - Start the game with 25 years of life - Firing bullets (regardless of upgrade state) costs 1 year of your life - Loot years from the corpses of your enemies - Spend years on different upgrades

Controls: - Movement: WASD - Shoot: Left Click

I would like to clarify that there is not a Mac version, despite the download link.

Pretty good but a few things, the turn radius is a little to big and feels weird, and sometimes the enemies spawn right in front of you, which subtracts lives, it is very unapparent what the "years" mechanic does and I only saw "upgrades" until my 4th try. Overall pretty good for a game jam.

@evan-m Thanks for the feedback! Enemies will only spawn at the edge of the arena, right next to the bushes, so you should be in the clear unless you're moving too close to the edges during a wave.

Cool game! I got to wave 7 after a few tries but i never manage to save up enough money for any upgrades. The movement was a bit wonky, I think I understand what you were going for but it makes it harder to control.

Cool game! The idea of shooting with your health was cool, but it was maybe a bit convoluted calling your health 'years'. The movement was a bit of a pain, since it took time to turn, and the upgrades were almost useless since I always died immediately after getting them. Maybe make them cheaper?

Otherwise, great stuff! It was nice all of the details in the environment, which was very unusual for a Ludum Dare game, so good job, you managed time well!

@ldjsq @killedbyapixel Thank you! I' m glad you liked it.

@justcamh Thank you! Yeah, it can be confusing at fist since there's no real direction given within the game itself. I'm sure the upgrade pricing still needs a little tuning, but I think it's at a pretty decent spot right now. Granted, for you to be able to effectively progress and purchase new upgrades you can't afford to make many mistakes during waves, but I think that's what's fun about a game like this. :)

Not too bad, I think technical issues and general polish hold the game back the most, I found myself quite entertained trying to position the enemies to kill them all in one spot but getting stuck on the obstacles got me a few times, the movement has something weird going on in it

nice art and music, the movement with its inertia is kind of hard, also getting stuck in everything around doesn't help.. it's really hard game

The difficulty curve could probably increase quicker, and the character's movement could do without the extra little push you get once you release the direction keys, but the rest of the game is solid!

I've never really thought about increasing field-of-view as an upgrade for a top-down shooter, that's pretty clever.

Sweet game. Only gripe I have: I would have liked to be able to slide off of obstacles, hated getting stuck whenever I'm blocked. Other than that it plays really smoothly. Good job!

Nice little entry! I to found the controls to feel a little sluggish e.g. when turning around. It might also help if there were fewer obstacles or at least if these could be destroyed to make navigation easier. The bullet/year mechanic is a nice idea but it feels a bit out of place in a soldier vs orc enviornment. Great entry, well done.

An ok game, The movement felt off to me, it felt like the character was sliding instead of stopping, which got annoying really fast.
