Once you get the hang of juking the guardians, the game does become quite easy. "Hard" still felt like the right difficulty for me, as it forced me to stay at the edge of my seat throughout the playthrough.
Thank you for a great game!
Sometimes, the way you lose aggro was a bit immersion breaking. At one point, the horrible face (*shudder*) lost sight of me as I was running around the soul-dispenser.
All in all though, excellent job!
As constructive criticism I'd recommend making the spooky thing harder to see before it has seen you (no glowing lights until it's go time) and then just make it faster. Almost the same speed as a running player would make it very intense.
All in all, I got a good chuckle from it and hope to see your work in the next Jam.
(And only now I realize that it has a difficulty setting. Maybe put it in the startup menu next time?)
@j0ye Thanks for the lofty compliments! I wanted to make this LD game more polished than my past LDs, so I spent a lot of time on modelling, sculpting and texturing. Glad you enjoyed it.
@gcttirth I made my last LD entry way too difficult, so I wanted to make sure I didn't make that same mistake this time. Unfortunately it looks like I erred too far on the side of caution this time around. I think adding another guardian to the labyrinth would have helped. Btw, there's only that one easter egg. The signs were a last minute addition and I only had time to add the one.
@mharring I wanted the chases to be heart pounding, exciting and terrifying! Thanks for the suggestion. I did add multiple difficulties (hit escape to bring up the menu) and the Easy difficulty makes you sprint longer and recover faster, but I didn't have a whole lot of time to balance it on Normal.
@topbraj Thanks again for playing and streaming. It's unfortunate that you encountered that issue. One of many I was aware of but didn't have time to fix.
@hasuman My last LD entry was too difficult and this one too easy. Next one will be just right. I appreciate you playing the game and offering feedback. Thanks!
@rancoud Yeah, next time around I'll need to spend more time balancing difficulty. That seems to be a common issue with my LD entries. Thanks!
also really freaked out once the enemy appeared :D
@hasuman I've always heard that if you find your own game difficult, others will find it nearly impossible. I tried your game and it's definitely intense and hard!
@gamesplusjames Thanks again for playing on stream. It's always fun to watch you play my games!
@jofersgames I'm glad I was able to get a jump out of you! I jumped at my own game a lot during development. Kinda ridiculous actually how they can just appear out of nowhere. :)
@sholyu Thanks for the feedback. I struggled with what to do about that. I wanted to get your heart racing and induce a little bit of panic when the guardians spotted you. Music is definitely not one of my strong suits, so I appreciate the advice.
@lubaka Thanks for the kind words. I made a horror experience for LD41 that had a jump scare. I tried to make this one scary in a different way (the terror of the guardians). I'm thinking of working on this a bit more and adding some additional challenges and potential scares.
@theustweak Thanks! The game was way too easy when you didn't have to worry about how long you could run, so it was critical to the gameplay to add that. Glad you appreciated it.
@aspect I had wanted to add a feature where the map would change after every soul, so the doors and walls would be in a different place. That would have added to the difficulty I think and it's something I may add to it post-jam. Thanks for the feedback! Glad I was able to freak you out too. :)
Damn... very good game! The graphics and sounds were already praised enough and I agree with them. The AI in this game is a little stupid... BUT! The fact that the AI wasn't smart actually added a lot to the game. The game was so fun just because I could mess with your AI :)
Great entry, great job! :)
