World Trader by timbs

[raw]
made by timbs for LD 44 (COMPO)

A little click Arcade Game Prototype based on only one black and white pixelated world map.

The base engine is done, but the game play is still rather limited. My time was limited to about 12 hours due to studies. But I had a lot of fun programming this little game engine.

The whole game only uses the world Image and a button and bar texture. All colouring of the Textures and map Areas is calculated at runtime.

Gameplay: Make earth survive as long as possible by making the right decisions (and having some luck) Drag with the mouse to move on the map. Click to select an area. Areas with pending Decisions are marked: if you wait to long the decision will be made for you. Click on the question and all options will show up.

You score as long as there are still humans on the world.

the Game was programmed in Kotlin using LibGdx as framework.

one button texture was not created by me (CC0) (due to lack of time) i there fore disable the rating for Graphics.

I think you have a great idea here! It needs some more work though. It was a bit hard for me to understand what was going on sometimes and what I needed to do. But if you keep working on it, I think this could be quite interesting.

A very interesting take on the "HOLY CRAP EVERYTHING'S HAPPENING SO FAST" genre.

I've gotta say, I suffered from a minor case of information overload when picking all the different options. When in doubt I always went to pick up more chicken wings. People died, sure, but at least I had my wings.
Another detail that bugged me a little bit was the game window. I think it'd be much more playable if it wasn't vertical. But maybe that's just me.

Overall - very enjoyable wings, thanks

A decent game considering the time you spent!

Since the game gives no instructions on what to do, I spent the first playthrough learning about the controls. Looked like some part of the world was turning orange, which indicated that it requires player attention. Click on it, and... click on the button that has a "problem" statement. Clicking on it gives three options, and you can see the blue timer tickdown. I assume we just have to click on the right decision? It felt like the decisions were... random? Sometimes clicking on "Evacuate the area" would result in mass explosion and ppl dying. Sometimes "making peace" results in +ppl and sometines -ppl? I still couldn't get the connection between the problem and the options, but maybe that is because the game is really hectic from the start? These are my first impressions.

Really liked the idea of the game! With a "tutorial" or basic instructions in the game I think it can be a really fun game to play as well.

Cool game but there was no tutorial but after clicking at orange/red country i realized what to do. The idea with controling the world is great :)

Turns out chicken wings aren't always the solution!

I enjoyed the game, it would do well with a tutorial; after a little trial and error I was able to (mostly) understand what I was doing.

My run was abruptly ended from a bug that closes the game if you scroll too far to the left (or right), so for the others playing this game, be careful!

Overall, a great game. I love strategy games so it was fun to see this.

I have a few gripes though;
The fact that you cant see the entire map at once makes it really hard to manage all countries.
The desision need to be made really quick, so quick you just cant manage them all. It wouldve been nice to have it all go a little slower.

This was a good game, with a bit more polish and a tutorial it'd make a nice anti-plague inc. style game.
I think adding the full map to view, and maybe a different graphic for countries that have events would make the game a bit easier to navigate.
