Remember by Elijah Moreno

[raw]
made by Elijah Moreno for LD 44 (JAM)

Experience the life of a struggling single father in a world where your memories are currency.

Update:

-Fixed a bug where you could walk around in the second section of the game

-Significantly reduced the amount of flashing lights in the flashback sequence (sorry if that caused issues for anyone)

-Fixed an issue where the text was often unreadable by changing it's color to be more blue

Clever use of the theme. Really like the mood and atmosphere of this game (even though it's not my kind of game).

Hi !

Artistic direction is very beautiful !

The text is sometimes unreadable :/

And the caddy sometimes is stuck in the wall

However, good job :D

WARNING: DO NOT PLAY THIS GAME IF YOU HAVE EPILEPSY.

I liked the direction of the story. It started off a slow, but the moment when the father went to bargain for his daughter's health and left her a phone call really hit me. The text scrolling sound really added to the atmosphere and made everything feel more visceral, well done.

Outside of that, the text was super difficult to read at times since most of the background was white and other than the introduction, it wasn't really a game so much as a short film. Overall fun story telling though, I definitely enjoyed sitting back and watching the story unfold.

Wow, just wow! Normaly I'm not really a fan of Visual novels or Interactive Movies. But this was really good. The story was great and clear to understand. The timing was perfect and set a great mood!
The only thing I noticed is that sometimes the white text on white background was hard to read. But all in all it is an awesome game / experience :)

I quickly got invested in the story but also gave me a headache from trying to read white text on a white background. Also I think i got stuck on a black screen at some point and had to force quit the game.

Wow, the feels. Best mood I've experienced this jam for sure. Great choice of art style too! Well done. Was the story inspired by a personal event?

Thanks Zesix for the comment (and also everyone else you seriously don't know how much it means to me that people like my game and it's story especially since my writing is something I've never really shared) but to answer your question, the story wasn't inspired by a real life event, but the idea of the story showing how much parents give for their children was definitely inspired by my parents who give so much of themselves to raise and support their children. Hope this answered your question.

Really original use of the theme, great submission.
The choices kind of felt non-consequential and the interactions were ultra basic, though it did add to the mood.

The writing actually got me a little, well done -- nit-picking the writing a bit, I think saying "god damn" to your daughter in a moment like that seems extremely unlikely and somewhat spoiled the build up to that point for me.

Minor nit-picks aside, this was a really unique and interesting submission, definitely one of my favorites so far!
