Slaves of the Carribean by chriiis88

[raw]
made by chriiis88 for LD 44 (JAM)

You are a ruthless captain of a ship, using the lifes of slaves as currency and for your profit. Everything is controlled with the mouse. In fights: left click (or hold) to control your ship, rights click to fire.

Tipps for your playthrough when rating the game: - you can visit the harbor every 7 days - get enough canon balls! If you're out, there is nothing to do but die by the hand of the enemy (or luck your way to the next harbor visit) - there is a boss on day 25. By this stage you should have seen most of what the game has to offer. After day 25 it's open ended play

Slaves as currency is an interesting premise, why didn't I think of that.

The gameplay reminds me of FTL. I really enjoyed playing your game. Once I got the hang of the ship controls I was unstoppable  even played until day 70!

Some feedback for your game:
* The slavetrader should have a set list of slaves which would only be updated at the next harbor visit. The way it is now, you can exploit it by opening and closing the slavetrader screen to reroll slaves with optimal stats.
* Also the ships should have controls for shooting to either direction, rather than just left.
* The Quit button in the game over screen is not working

@avsc Thanks for your feedback and for playing our game. Did you play the web version by any chance? The quit button just closes the desktop app, so I guess it's not useful for the web version.

@chriiis88 It was the web version. Though it could have a restart button there so you don't have to close and reopen the game (Desktop) or refresh the screen (Web) every time you lose.

Like the concept, my country has a very black page in history about this (thanks VOC). I do find it very confusing tho, and the UI could've been a bit more polished. the theme is really pronounced and I like the cartoony style of the graphics. all in all good job.

It was a nice game, I did not survive a lot. The combat can be improved, it did not occur to me where I was shooting at(Maybe right click aligns the vessel and then shoots instead of insta-shooting)
The premise and the presence of theme is very good. Nice game overall!

I enjoyed your game. I liked the random nature of each day. Made consecutive play throughs feel different. I only had an issue with the fact that you could run out of cannonballs mid fight and have no option than to just let the other ship kill you. Nice work on the game though.

interesting concept! the theme is well placed. The bright colors and high saturation enlightens the mood and is unexpected with the "life is currency" theme together with slaves.

Nice game :) But in my opinion It is hard to control the ship. But maybe I just need to get used to it.
But gameplay is interesting and this game gives a good mood :)

Good job.

Cool game! I like this. The concept itself is strong enough to pursued after the jam. I really liked the fighting mechanics, but could maybe have been finetuned more. (ships move slower perhaps?). Good job!

Hm... I really love the concept. But, it's too hard. It's not at all easy to avoid damage during fights.
Like, I've managed to survive first 7 days thinking, it's ok, to repair the damage to the ship, I'll just cash out some. It was 285 gold!?! And I got around 60 during those 7 days. :scream:

But, with some balancing, this game would actually be one of the best games this LD, from my perspective.
