More Power, Less Life! by Orpartlu

[raw]
made by Orpartlu for LD 44 (JAM)

More power, less life, a blessing in disguise.

This is our first LudumDare. So please be polite. We are both developer, but we also did all of the graphics and sounds by ourself. It was fun for us and we probably will participate on the next LudumDare.

In this game you literally have to pay with your life to get upgrades. The goal is to survive as long as you can. But be aware, there are some enemies who likes to kill and devour you. We tried to do a local coop-game, where you can play with two controllers and fight together against the opponents.

Unity isn't the best solution yet, because the Input of controllers differs.

CONTROL: You have to use one controller and the keyboard. (Using the arrows and space for fighting).

INFO: There are two players as default. We didn't make it to get the option for single-player. Sorry. :c

We used: Unity, Visual Studio, GitHub, Photoshop, FL-Studio

The sprites for the arena are really nice.
I was wondering how the second character was controlled, turns out it was the controller. I guess I could've known if I read the text.

I struggled to really get the hang of things, primarily because controlling via a keyboard felt really delayed and unresponsive. I loved the theming and the art had a really good aesthetic. The sword swing felt like it had a lot of weight behind it with visual/auditory feedback, but it didn't have the "slay through enemies" that I was hoping for. On the whole, seems like a really solid start, but needs some tuning and balancing. Great job for a first go-round!

Fun game! And I like the music. Paying life for powerups fits the game system very well.

Do the enemies get stronger? It feels getting easier with the progress.

@dilauraba Yeah the control with keyboard isn't the best actual. We developed it for controllers and noticed later the bad controlling with the keyboard. What do you mean exactly with "slay through enemies"? More Power? More knockback or a lager range? Thanks!

@ayama Thank you! There is a system for spawning the enemies. Each round got some waves and there is a hidden "credit" for the spawner. Each enemie have costs (the stronger they are, the higher the costs). This value is increased in every round.

Hey sadly i couldnt really play the game becausw i had no conroller so halfe of my life got wasted each Round. I played anyway but stopped at round 9 because i was cheesing my way through the World. If you run in cicles(more like dimonds) you wont get hit. Would have been nice to have an option to play it as single player. Other than that real good game for your first jam.

this game seems cool, with a nice sound design but it's a pity because if I don't have any controller with me I can't play with someone :/
