SpaceQuest by Simone

[raw]
made by Simone for LD 44 (COMPO)

Terrible news! The ship core acquired self-consciousness. It started to produce bot to defend itself and soon will be unstoppable. Only you, in form of a small repairing unit, can do something. Kill the enemies, buy upgrade, reach the ship core and put down this machine rebellion. Be careful! You will have to pay for the upgrades with your integrity...

I hope you all will enjoy playing this game as much as I did while making it. Unfortunately the scope was a bit too big this time and I didn't really have the time (and the energy) to polish it properly. Overall, I'm still quite happy with the result.

The game looks pretty good!

Went in expecting to shoot some spaceships, got just that.

1) The static turrets were more annoying than challenging. Some rooms they were hitting me from outside the screen. It looked like they only locked on if the player is in a line from them. Once I realized that, I realized it is better to not stay at the edges. Still died to the static turret in one of the rooms in 2nd level.

2) The moving enemies often got stuck in doorways, unable to move while I was still able to hit them with my laser. I did not see them shoot their weapon once actually. Maybe if they were smaller it would solve the doorway issue?

3) "+max life" - i was unable to figure out what this would do until I actually used it. I think if it just said "+1 life" or something that would have been better. Also, there seems no reason to use repair instead of +max life unless there is a cap and I haven't reached that yet.

Overall, the shooting experience was fun, upgrades felt meaningful as well. Seems like there is a giant enemy looking at the screenshot as well, so I am off to play some more and destroy it :D

Awesome little game! The graphics are really good, especially the movement. Superintuitive as well and the audio is nice :)

@gcttirth thanks for th meaningful critics :-)
Indeed there are amy things not polished. I started with a smaller idea in mind and then I expanded it over my possibilities of delivering within 48h.

Awesome game! Graphisc were great, sound was nice as well(though the background music was did get a little repetative). This was one of the most fun games I played from LD44 and the difficulti was good as well, took me 3 tries to beat the boss.

That's a pretty nice game ! It seemed a little short to me, maybe fire rate upgrade is OP, it took me 3min to put an end to that machine rebellion, deathless. :D

I had fun. Nice graphics and gameplay, (though the static turrets got annoying). Would benefit from more sound and particle effects when hitting/killing enemies.

A little simple, but interesting, a pity that there is not more different enemy but it is normal for a LD. Good Job

Simple game with fun gameplay. It felt quite complete but as you say, some more polishing would have been useful to make a better gaming experience.

I like that there are multiple types of enemies and the upgrade system was a nice touch too. Clever use of the theme with using HP as a currency for upgrades.

Good job!

@mia-devs The theme connection would be that you need to spend your life to buy upgrades.
Not particularly close relation, I have to admit :)
On the other hand, this was one of the only 3 themes I voted against xD I was really no inspired by it.

The mechanic of powerup´s for life points is very accurate. Enjoy playing it. The graphics and the carming little character got me 10 mins into it. Easy and fun to play, congratulations!

I really like the level design!
Maybe the enemies could get harder over time and you should add checkpoints when traveling through portals. But other than that, a great game!

Pretty good game overall.

I think that repair and max life are a little redundant as repairing one lost life or earning a new one is basically the same, meaning you could only have a single +1 Life button and simply not display lost lives.

The shooting and the enemies were pretty alright, as was the balancing of the stats with the level ups. The boss on the second level kept destroying me from out of the screen though.
