Ripped The Life by Alienplay

[raw]
made by Alienplay for LD 44 (JAM)

Ripped The Life is a puzzle platforming game in which you can take life and give it back to anything that moves. When something is 'out of life' it moves slower and vice versa. Use this mechanic to solve simple puzzles.

Controls: * A/D or Arrows to move * Space/W/Up arrow to jump * Left click to throw spell (to take life or give life) * Right click to throw spell at yourself

Cute graphics, neat platforming puzzle mechanic. Didn't seem to fit the theme of the LD very well, the only similarity is that I am the Grim REaper. But I didn't spend anything resembling life for any kind of thing! So no currency!

Music really is not annoying after all the levels. Picked up for a relaxed flight on the right mouse button. The mechanics of the game are simple and minimalist, but there is something in it.

This is a nice little game, simple but charming visuals, good gameplay gimmick, nothing wrong with the controls.

An very charming and a very well made LD game. For me the difficulty level was a bit high, but this says more about my platformer playing abilities, then it says about your games difficulty. Overall is this a really good LD game. Well done.

@generalbeans I interpreted the theme differently. Basically, currency = value and when you take life from something it slows down so it's easier for you to go forward (meaning when you take life from something it has value to you). This just made sense to me XD
@jk5000 @shp @yursa @bnmkt @philarmon @slotha @zoneoutapps @giezi Thanks for playing the game and leaving supportive comments!

Cool music and a fun challenging puzzle game. The platforms moved very fast, which took a bit of getting used to. Keep it up :)

Quite enjoyed the art style and the mechanics - it was just tight enough to control. I wish it would have been a bit longer, I really wanted to continue on!

@persegan Thank you!
@tshiif I plan to continue developing it into a full web game and to release it to Kongregate and Newgrounds and maybe some other web portals. We'll see. I'm glad you enjoyed it! :slight_smile:

Cool! But I think shooting backwards should be possible, there is one level when it would be nice.

Thank you so much for coming to my stream and letting me play your fantastic game! Although I am usually terrible at puzzle games I am glad that I managed to play through the entire game, the only thing that I wish was different is that there were more levels. That is the best feedback you can get, so I hope that you will consider expanding on this idea, because I feel like it has potential!

A few of the highlights of this game are:
- The main mechanic, just so elegant and innovative.
- The graphics, nice and coherent. Just feels well polished.
- The level design, not to be underestimated! You designed your levels really well!

Great job!

What Simon said: the mechanics are very interesting, the pixel art is minimalist and very cute, and the level design is very well thought. The levels are roughly sorted by increasing difficulty, which is not always the case in gamejam entries :-) I wish there were a few more, maybe larger levels, though!

Very nice game overall, good choice of music, cute graphics that convey the level design well, the mechanic is interesting and the level design itself was pretty good, I'm curious to see what you could do with more levels.

Two things you could work on:
- The "spell ball" always spawns in front of the character, and the character's orientation is determined by your movement, not your cursor, that means if you last moved left, and try to click at your character's right, the character will throw a spell ball in its face. Considering your character's orientation has no other purpose in the game, I would make it so that it follows your cursor, which would make it easier to move and aim in opposite directions (I hope that was clear enough).
- The two icons showing when you fail, one's for restarting and the other is to go back to the start, but that meaning wasn't clear and there was no text to make it clearer, you can probably guess I'm mentioning it because I had to restart your game halfway through by misclicking on the wrong icon haha!

Congratulations for shipping your first entry, keep it up :)
