Intro

Bad life decisions, specifically financial ones, are all around us and they are so easy for fall victim to. It often starts with a little too much momentum into the wrong direction and before you know it, your stuck in that routine. Getting out is really hard but the best thing to do is just to steer clear once the momentum starts building up.

Gameplay

You task is simple. Don't build up too much momentum into the wrong direction (right) and always keep track if good financial goals. Also don't forget to stop and smell the roses (I put in a few inscriptions to lighten the mood).

Instructions

"A" and "D" to move left and right "Space" to jump

From the creator

As I stared at the theme I only saw three words: your, life, and currency. I guess it's mainly due to the big steps I recently took in life and it started when I quit my job.

From that first day I started looking at things differently. Mainly realizing what was important to me and what wasn't... Forgotten friends resurfaced. Bad habits become nonsensical. Shallow relationships grew sour. Expensive restaurants were boring.

Three years later, I'm in different country (ZA->CA), different career (webdev->gamedev), different outlook (materialistic->frugal), and happier than ever. Enjoy my game. Peace :)

Build Request

I'm pretty remote at the moment so if anyone is willing to trade a Mac build for a Windows build I'd really appreciate it. (project is currently on Unity 2018.3.12f1)

Music

Sadly I didn't have enough time to put in music so here is a song you can listen to as you play: https://soundcloud.com/stevenobrien/upbeat-jazz-piece

Help me?!

I figured since a lot of people are struggling with the first level I'd leave this to help ease the pain: ezgif.com-video-to-gif.gif

Interesting (and incredible unique) puzzle concept that fits the theme very well. Learning how to control the giant spinning coin and then using it to try to reach the door is engaging. My only issue is that I would suddenly stop moving left or right, and have to jump then press the key in midair to begin again.

Thanks @zanyg I'll see if I can get that sorted.

Good game, quite difficult but good once you know what you're doing. That damn casino though!

Ok folks, fixed a few bugs and made it a much easier to control the player. Shouldn't be to difficult anymore. Thanks for those who struggled through the tough controls  @zanyg @furtive-pygmy @notb

Interesting puzzle game! I actually had the hardest time with the first level. The movement and jumping is sometimes a bit awkward. and there are a few bugs. Other than that I really like it, and it has a nice message behind it. Good job!

Really creative take on the theme! I also loved the art you did for the various coins. One bug I often came across was clipping into the ground when I fell from a high distance and not being able to jump because of it. I ended up having to restart the entire game when this happened. I think it might have to do with how the collision is set up, but other than that, really great work! :)

@kevin-liu Aha, I suspected that might happen after a few things I did for the movement fixes. I'll up the physics updates to prevent that from happening but I'll also throw in a Restart button just in case. Thanks for letting me know.

Latest version with a fix for the physics bug @kevin-liu mentioned as well as a restart button uploaded on itch.io and source code on Github.

Cool and original concept.

Took me a while to understand that I could walk on one side of the face. Then I felt a bit dumb for not realising it. Maybe just me :P

I guess I would've liked it if the first level was a little bit easier. It was kind of hard to get the momentum right, and I got a bit frustrated.

Nice spin on the theme! And cool graphics :)

What a great, unique idea! I had some jump button problems as well, but thanks for putting in the restart button. Good job overall!

This man inside the coin was very funny.

- controls were a bit funky, jumping didn't always work properly. Sometimes the jump was really small. The gameplay requires you to move in the air but that didnt' always work.
- I got stuck in the ground once and had to restart.
- I think the idea and gameplay was very innovative and fit the theme uniquely.

@raymoclaus thanks for playing. For a while I couldn't wrap my head around why the controls are as you say "funky". After playing it again today I finally realize that when the coin is rolling, the player doesn't inherit its velocity (even though when I made it a child game object of the coin... lesson learned). Which is also the result of the player sliding over the faces inside the coin and also what makes it seem like the player isn't always moving.

So my theory at the moment is: Player is always moving relative to the world and not relative to the vehicle (coin) it is inside of, therefore creating the illusion of what I assume you refer to as funky controls.

The jumping and getting stuck is a whole different can-of-worms but I do know what you mean.

Happy to end out my night of reviewing with this one! And hopefully this is review number 20 for you!

Really liked the core mechanic! Probably the most innovative one I've seen in LD44 thus far! And thanks for making a webGL build!

Quite a unique game. I'm surprised the first level was the hardest of them all. I find it odd that you can add torque to a coin by pushing the walls within without having friction from anything else but the coin itself.

very unique and fun to play, only thing that bothered me is that the jump did not always seem to work when i wanted it to
