Slimy Dungeon by dodori

[raw]
made by dodori for Ludum Dare 45 (JAM)

Welcome to "Slimy Dungeon"!

(Ludum Dare 45 Entry by @dodori & @thunder)

Slimy Dungeon was made in 72 hours for the Ludum Dare 45 Game Jam. All the art, sounds and code were made by us in 72 hours.

Story

You are a small slime, outcast by your slime family. On the search for a new place to live, you find a dungeon guarded by Rock Crabs.

You make it your goal to explore the WHOLE dungeon, in hopes of finding new cool things to keep, to replace the belongings-shaped hole in your slimy heart, caused by leaving all your belongings at home.

(Too bad the dungeon is endless!)

Controls

WASD or ARROW KEYS to move. Aim with your mouse, and hold LEFT CLICK or LEFT-CTRL to shoot!

You could technically use a controller for the movement, but none of us had a working controller at hand, so we didn't implement the shooting mechanic for it. (Sorry :/)

The dungeon is generated at runtime, and items drop randomly. Feel free to share your highest floor scores, or test out how the items stack!

Change-Logs:

08.10.2019, 7:47AM [CEST]:

Changes: Fixed Typo in Tutorial, Made skipping the tutorial work for HTML5, Fixed shots disappearing when you're too close to the wall, Fixed Eye Boss not applying Damage Animation Correctly, Fixed Floor Count going up by 2 instead of 1 per floor, by popular bug reports: Player now freezes correctly so you don't run into enemies when entering a room.

This is both mine and Thunder's very first Ludum Dare Entry, and of course we had to choose a Randomly-Generated Rogue Like... Sorry for the spare item and enemy variety.

If you're going to play the HTML5 build, please run it in fullscreen. Thank you!

game plays quite nice... only issue I had with difficulty was entering a room going up and basically landing on the enemy. I would suggest spawning the enemies in the corners or doing something so that you don't basically enter a room right into the enemy.

The empty rooms were a bit of a disappointment.

I fought the eye boss and it played just fine.

Awesome game! Reminds me of a lot of classic games like Binding of Isaac.
Which is a great thing!
I gave it a run and got to level 5, I would like to try again and see if I can find some cool items.
I am sure I barely even tapped the market when it comes to finding unique items.
Definitely worth playing, and worth expanding upon.
add some more enemies, and some more bosses, and this game is a runner!

Because of a popular bug report:
The player now freezes correctly when entering a room, so you don't run into enemies when entering a room.

Very cute, love the little slime trail your dude leaves. Perhaps the first weapon's firing could be a bit quicker. Game is well put together with nice little details, and combat is pretty fun/challenging.

Here's how I did after a couple tries  Will certainly give it another go at some point.

Nice little game!

I think I got all the upgrades, I started getting multiple spare eyes, best friends, and slime cutting knives.
I was sliding at the speed of sound! (Maybe I even was a little too fast as I often hug the enemies strait when I entered a room from top or bottom.)

It might have been better to increase the heigh of rooms. Also for the bosses, that were harde when coming vertically (because you had less distance to anticipate projectiles).

So there was some variaties of items, and the visual additions that came with it were especially cool. It would also have been nice to have more enemies, and with different mechanics. I could see there already was some efforts, unfortunatly there was a straight forward way to beat all of them: slide around the room in circles and shoot in the middle. (The bosses were a little different though.)

For a first game jam this is really impressive! Nice entry overall, and I wish you the best for your next participations!

A super adorable roguelite! I came across something that might be a bug: on the first floor the eye boss spawned next to me, it didn't attack or anything, and I killed it and got the spare eye power-up right from the start.

Not bad! The slime is pretty cute and it's my kind of game. That said, I did find the very slow camera lerping to cause problems with being able to see where I was going and move around properly. It meant that sometimes enemies could attack me before I could see them. Good luck getting to 20 ratings!

I always appreciate procedural rogue-likes for these events! I think the game was very nice and had lots of little details that worked well! For me I think the enemies were a bit tanky, specifically I would prefer having less HP on crabs in the early game and just more of them. Even if it ended up being the same number of shots I think it would feel better and also help the rooms feel less empty. Either way I enjoyed this entry!

I really love the random aspect of it, and the upgrades you find on each floor. It's really reminiscing of Binding of Isaac~

Love the randomly generated dungeon! Sound fx are awsome. Great game over all :) would have liked that I could shoot faster.

Great game! I'm really impressed by what you were able to get done. Also it runs just fine in html 5. If you could've snuck in some power-ups and just found a generic creative commons 0 retro track I think that could've helped tons but what you guys got done is really quite good.

The game is very cute. Controls are smooth.

If you want to improve it, you can make the initial shooting speed a bit faster. It was really annoying to wait for each shot. Another thing is the tutorial, the camera follows you too slow. First I didn't realize when I left the game through the door, and then I didn't even realize when I start it. I just moved up and I was in the first level.

It is a great idea to have tutorial in the game though. Cool game :)

Cute game. I included it in my Ludum Dare 45 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :) https://youtu.be/98_o2aOM-SQ
