Jesaouf VI by shubart
A simple shooter.
"We come from nothing, we are going back to nothing-In the end what have we lost? Nothing!”
Really poor Gameplay, sorry. I hope you will enjoy the context and the musics
All assets are googled (and propably copyrighted for some).
But the game engine is mine:
The source is split in three parts:
- Ludum45: the game itself
- chaos: a base C++ libray, the core of the engine
- death: another library more dedicated for games
Otherwise i use the following C++ libraries
- OpenGL (4.5)
- Glew
- Glfw
- Irrklang
- Boost with MPL
- STL
- FreeImage
- Glm
- Tinyxml2
- Freetype
- Nlohmann/json
And
- TiledMap Editor
Sources are publicly given but due to some libraires dependencies, you probably won't be able to compile. Let me know if you want some informations relative to the code.

Don't take this the wrong way, your game is cool, and it's well done for a game made in 72 hours, my only complaint is the art
I thought the gameplay was actually pretty good, I don't like bullet hells generally but this was pretty fun.
I loved the DOOM style health indicator where your halo gets smaller with each hit, classic. Music was pretty lit too.
One criticism: the heartbeat sound when you get down to one life is really loud, took me a moment to figure out what the noise was.
Also very cool you wrote the engine from scratch, don't see that very much!
BTW you can use github releases to publish your game, its better way that just add it to repo.
The general mood and humour reminded me of the old Jeff Minter games such as Revenge of the Mutant Camels:

(Sure you got the rights to the music?)
That was great, though there were a couple frustrating parts around the place.
The sliding after moving was particularly annoying, and made it pretty hard to control the character, if there was one thing that I would remove, it would be that.
Otherwise, great job.
The game could really use more feedback for the player. Indications of how much health an enemy has left would be nice. ie. slightly changing the sprite art for each hit they take could help. I also don't see any kind of health bar for the player. As someone else mentioned, the heartbeat sound on the last life is very loud/annoying. Maybe only have it go off for the first 2-3 seconds and make it quieter?
Overall a decent game jam attempt and an example of good game balance.
Other than that, the game is pretty difficult from the get go, I would add a difficulty curve of some sort to the game.
Maybe I would play a little with the controls, the movement is a little fast for me to slip past enemies without a scratch.
I think the game is doing well in other aspects.
I liked the game, but a lot of the execution of your idea was sloppy, in my opinion.
However, I am NOT giving you a high Audio score for a Depeche Mode track. (At least putting Personal Jesus there does fit thematically.) You're supposed to at least use "derivative works", not other people's content.
