If the game doesn't start, try installing the Visual C++ runtimes and OpenAL from the redist folder.

Comments

I only realized Ludum Dare was this weekend when I opened twitch 2 minutes before the starting time and saw Quill18 streaming and just joined in. The theme allowed for pretty much everything, so I made a simulation/strategy game. I prefer the rules of the compo and made almost everything in the 48 hours of the compo (I only fixed a problem with my audio engine and made some minor adjustments on the last day), however, I can't really share all of my libs and therefore cannot enter the compo.

I was unable to run this application, are there any instructions on running the binary? I just unzipped it and opened the ld45.exe file.

Here is what error popped up: https://snipboard.io/YqTfIA.jpg

A nice little enivronment friendly game, liked the music and the simple style of it, though had the song playing double at times for some reason, which wasn't that ear friendly, overall good job! :)

@sprotex hmm, which version of windows you are using? 32 or 64 bit? did you try installing the C++ runtimes in the redist folder ( them missing would normally result in a different error message, but maybe installing them helps )?

Very neat concept and fits the theme perfectly I think. Good job :)

@likirus Yes, thanks for that. I run 64bit version of Windows 10. The redistributables were installed on my computer, so I clicked on the 'repair' option of the setup. I also installed the OpenAL that was in the folder and then the game run perfectly. You could maybe add that to the description so people don't make my mistake again.

I liked this game a lot! Managing money and water, you starting on a desert with nothing, great! Is there an end condition? I 'painted' the whole screen green, and it didn't seem to do anything.

Very good job. I accidentally restarted the game once, but played through it again, because I had fun playing it.

PS: Nice touch with the plastic water container

@sprotex great that it works now :)
It is in the readme.txt, but I should probably add it to the description on here too.
No, there is no end game condition, but that's a great idea, maybe a progress bar and once 80% of the desert is green the player has won.
Thanks a lot for the feedback :)

Nice game. Works perfectly in Linux using Wine.
Not much of a challenge though. Those are some really efficient sprinklers and it rains a lot for a desert.
Covered the entire map in green and have more money than I know what to do with.
Some fences to keep the animals in a region would have been useful.
The game could do with balancing and an end condition but it was fun.

That was awesome.
Very ambitious for three days, but it actually felt complete and pretty polished as well.
I loved the touches with the plastic water tank, and the message when you try to slaughter the animals. It really made the whole thing.

Great job.

Liked:
+ I was impressed with writing own engine.
+ Gamification of enviromental problems.
+ Cool joke with plastic tank.

Ways to improve:
* Not chalenging at all. Game needs rebalancing: IMO sprinklers should consume water not plants. Too rainy for a desert. To make soil fertile it should be not enough to put sprinkler around, -> buy fertile soil and plant only on it. -> if it goes dry for any reason it should deteriorate (fall back) to desert sand, so you'll have to repurchase it again.

Despite it is a Jam entry, I'm impressed that you are a Compo actually. Have my respect.

Lots of fun and cute graphics, not really much of a challenge though, would have loved to see a more difficult version.

I liked the music, overall it was pretty good. Gameplay could be expanded a bit, like adding scaling prices and such.

I'm impressed by your dedication to spending time working on your own engine while also still creating a game for ludum dare. I really enjoyed the gameplay but liek a couple others have said it could use some balancing to be a little more challenging :)

Is that really what llamas sound like? :D

Neat game. Could use some tweaking because it is pretty easy to have way too much water and money. Maybe sprinklers should consume water over time? It also seemed like my rain collectors had storage that wasn't counted in the bar at the top. And the music wasn't for me, it was too jumbly and chaotic for my tastes.

But good art, and mechanically everything worked as expected. Got a lot done for 48 hrs!!
