made by RetroBarbare for Ludum Dare 45 (JAM)

Unlock is game made for the Ludum Dare 45

In this game you will start with no game and meet the narrator.

The narrator will create the game while you're playing and the further you'll get into the game the more polished and finished it will become. The game is mostly a platformer with a fun way to move up and down by manipulating your own gravity.

You can also unlock part of the game like the title or sound for achievement.

This is a fun concept that makes great use of the theme. I had a couple issues: The constant typing sound (but I empathize with getting sound right in a short time), but the text was enjoyable and the overall idea was great. Oh, the ability to touch the lava on the sides even though it doesn't extend past the platforms it's on is a bit rough. The controls aren't yet precise enough so this made it pretty difficult (I didn't play much beyond its introduction so I don't know if it is part of the story).

Thanks @gold5games the game was maybe a little bit too difficult i didn't play tested so much so it's possible if i continue the game i will improve the collision and the controls to feel more polished because they don't change once you reach the lava part

Could not get past lava. Also, would be nice to fast forward text.
What I like is, it actually tells about how games (especially small/jam games) are made.

@baturinsky Yeah the game is very meta you're not the only one who get stuck at lava , too bad i made the game so difficult

Nice concept. I really struggeled with the space bar tapping to avoid the lava! Sometimes it gets tedious to read/wait for the text although its funny. Imagine this game with a good voiceover instead of text. Like the voice from "Stanley Parable". Man, that would have been a good game! Anyway, well done!

Thanks @attala it was planned to have a voice over but i didn't have the time and i don't speak english very well so i will do that once the voting of the jam is finished

Cool, well done :)
A bit to hard I think
The text too slow and its sound is annoying

Thematically, this game is wonderful! I think the execution of your game is clever, having it be made as you are playing it. I also found it quite funny! As you already know, the controls were a little too quick, therefore a little frustrating, and the lava had unfair hitboxes, but despite all that, I reached the end! That's an achievement get in my book!

@bozarre Yeah , once the voting part of the jam is done i will change that and change the controls to be more precise and fun
@kelrol Thanks and great job for finishing the game unlike the stairs it's really history ^^

I think you have a brilliant idea, and did a very impressive job within the limited time. It's so nice to see that the gameplay quality is not compromised for the unique narrative. I really enjoyed it! Only advice I would give is to maybe change the text-pop sound. It sounded great at the beginning, but gets boring and repetitive afterwards. Overall great game!

@iantyf Thanks , yeah the sound is annoying me so when the game gets it's needed update i will change it

The game idea is very amazing and i love the concept.
The only problem i had, is the difficulty.
Like in level 4 i had trouble navigating my player there and level 5 seems to impossible for me.
I think the controls might be a little delayed or the lava aren't good distaned.
But credits for the idea and i would have loved to continue the game (if i was able to beat level 5)

"Yes, like Vvvvv" :joy: I loled

Very fun idea :) I enjoyed the narrative to get to level 1. It was somewhat too difficult with edge-death by those yellow bars and intense gravity. But really nice work

@beshr-kayali Thanks you very much , the gameplay definitly need some change for the update

Man, this game is HARD. The last level is insane.

The text was too slow and it felt weird not being able to move when the text was rolling.

The premise is cool, but I don't think the changes made the game any better, especially the "visual effect" that made my framerate drop into oblivion, rendering the game even harder.

That said, I enjoyed it and finally finished.

@boltkey Sorry for your computer and if you stop somethimes when the narrator is talking is it because else you could die in a cutscene but thank you for your feedback

Awesome game, it's a little hard but I beat the entire thing, I really like the idea of the developer talking to the player as he builds his game.

I like the design, but it is extremely difficult! I feel like the gravity acceleration is way too fast, you have to be extremely precise with pressing spacebar.

I found this game to be very difficult which isn't necessarily a bad thing but something to consider. My biggest comment would be that while the text is engaging and a cool component it very much slows down the playthroughs.

Overall I like this concept and would consider this a successful game!

I like the idea :), i though it was a game where you just talked to the narrator. The levels are fun, but really hard, mostly because there is a small delay when changing gravity once you pressed spacebar.

@alchemic Thanks
@hyperscope yeah the test really need to be skip or speeded up
@alarts i know for the delay it's because , the player need to reduce i think that was a bad idea
