Lost Cube by Ninben

[raw]
made by Ninben for Ludum Dare 45 (JAM)

It's a simple plateform game, but You need to finish the level yourself, because there is no platform where you can jump in the beginning ! You can gather the platforms and place them as you wish !

The game works with keyboard and gamepad but only the gamepad commands are shown.

=== Keyboard controls ===

  • Configuration: AZERTY

  • Move : Q, D

  • Jump: Space
  • Platform placement mode: F (then F again to place the platform or C to cancel)
  • Move the platform: UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT
  • Rotate platform: R
  • Pause: Esc

We were only two programmers in the team so don't judge the graphics too harshly ^^

Great idea, but the Q and D button for left and right make people who are used to AD control feel kind of uncomfortable, and a slight press may make jumping too high or too far, which may add many unnecessary "gameover".

We are french, so we have azerty keyboard :/ but the game is created to be played with joystick ! Yes the gamepad is a bit sensitive, we try to ajust it, but obviously it's too sensitive even with our adjust :/

Cool game, I liked the 80's synths and overall retro vibe. As mentionned above, the controls felt a bit too sensitive, the "character" was hard to control with precision. I think it's mainly because the camera doesn't have an "elastic band" effect. As a result you get confused as soon as you jump because your perspective changes.
After a while though, I got the hang of it and could complete the levels :)

I think the game looks pretty cool. Unfortunately I don't have a gamepad and the keyboard controls felt really awkward. Also I'm not great at this kind of game anyway.

This game was a really solid play for me. However, I had a few major issues with this entry. For one, it seems games made with Unreal with some sort of VR support turned on seem to make my game lag after loading a level after around 20 seconds. This is the second entry I have played made in Unreal with this issue, and since you have to restart after dying and it immediately reloads the level, it made it frustrating on more difficult, trial-and-error levels. However, I did finish your entire entry, and it was a very, very well polished and enjoyable platformer. The different platforms and introduced beautifully, the graphics all follow a consistent feel, the inclusion of a menu to restart or quit the game is a nice touch. The music and sound perfectly compliment the aesthetic of the game. This is one of the best entries I have played so far, so congratulations to both of you.

Thanks for your review, it's really cool ! The control is indeed sensitive, and the character is hard to control at first :/ I don't really understand why the game lags, but maybe your pc is old ? Unreal is a really heavy soft. Thanks you for trying to finish our game, and as the level designer, it's really cool to have some review on it :)
