Flubby Farm by yazara

[raw]

Snap 2019-10-07 at 23.27.56.png

You find yourself in an underwater seascape, starting with nothing but a hand full of cards. They have strange creatures called "Flubbies" on them. Play the cards to create a Flubby.

Likewise, the Flubby starts with nothing - it can't swim very well, has no mouth, no shell, no Flubby-Friends. With more cards you can change that! Grow your Flubbies to their full potential and create your Flubby Farm!

Beware though, as you are not alone with your Flubbies... A rivaling swarm of aggressive Gronkas is already on their way! How long can you maintain your Flubby Farm against the ever-growing Gronka group?

Controls

  • Drag cards with the left mouse button onto the screen.
  • Drag cards back into your hand or right click while dragging if you change your mind.

The Flubbies are so cute! Only thing I would complain is that everything is a bit slow, but for a 48 hour challange it's an awesome game!

Super cute game, great graphics. I think it's a tiny bit slow, but it was still really fun to play.

@lukvasando Thank you for the comment! I agree, Flubbies are very cute :3
The early game is intentionally paced a little more slowly so new players can consider their choices, read the cards and learn the mechanics without too much stress. I see your point though, we may have gone a little too far with the slow pace.

@dragonsbeardgames Thank you for playing and commenting! I'm glad you liked it. We tried pacing it a little more slowly so decisions can be considered carefully and new players can read the card descriptions and make an informed choice what to place. May have made it a little too slow in the end though haha

Do any of y'all know where I can buy a pet flubby? Because I would pay about as much money as I make doing game development to have one.

Amazing game. Art is very beutiful, upgrades look awesome. Gameplay and sounds are fun, responsive and satisfying. The biggest issue is that there is no win condition, so after a while theres no point in playing it anymore. Also I wish I could see next wave spawn timer and how many waves I already killed.

Agree with @lil-penguin . I liked it so much tho! It's super fun and intuitive to play. Awesome for a jam project to be honest, quite impressed.

Nice game mechanics. Loved playing it especially upgrades. Once I had to chose least terrible card, I really loved that part.

A very nice game! It is polished in every way, graphics, sounds and fish movement. The game starts out very slow though, I would have liked it a little more difficult. The amount of card variation is fine!

@flashviper maybe the creator of Flubbies @yazara can make one for you?

@lil-penguin thank you for the comment! I generally prefer to have some win-state as well. I think there's some replay value in the simple card-based highscore we've got in the game though. Play as many cards as you can before the Gronkas eventually win.

This game is so addictive :O Had a lot of fun trying to get as many Flubbies as I could inside the range of the spells. Spent 15 mins farming flubs before work and I wish I had more time top play!

Great game really awesome. I had to restrain myself to not watch the stream while I was working on my own submission. 102 Was my score :)
My strategy: I gave the gronkas only Hp upgrades (got them offered every time) and hoped to get enough range damage on my Flubbies to negate that. At the peak I had like 20-30 nearly fully upfraged Flubbies :)

Played up to 68 cards only and was so sad when my last flubby died :( I love the sounds and design of flubbies and how each item changes them (those big lips were kinda creepy tho XD)

I felt like dealing damage card was showing not often enough but maybe that was the idea - armor your flubbies, give them weapon and you don't need dealing damage cards anymore, just watch them kill XD (but I was just bad at keepieng flubbies alive XD)

Overall awesome game!

What an amazing game for such a small time period! The sound design is fantastic, and combined with the stunning visuals and captivating gameplay, truly spectacular. Amazing job!

Feels very polished, was fun to play. Nice game. What I missed is to make some progress. After a few minutes, there is nothing new to discover and it is very easy to stay alive. But anyway, very good game.

Nice job, I really liked how the Flubbies start out with no abilities and you had to upgrade them with cards. It took me a second to realize that you can upgrade a group of them based on the circle. Cool idea.
Awesome entry!

Such a good game! Very fun, very creative. You should keep developing this and put it on the app store, I think people would love it.

I played up to 106 and then stopped because my economy was still strong yet the game seemed to offer nothing new. But, boy, was it a journey up to that point! I love, love, love what you did here! The presentation is super strong, obviously, but the gameplay is really addicting, too! I could totally see myself playing an enhanced version on my phone for quite a while :)

Amazingly well done!

This was really fun, and I found myself playing much longer than I expected to. I think this could be made into a pretty cool game with the addition of more cards and enemies. It would make a great mobile game.

@purrseus Thank you for playing and commenting. I'm glad you enjoyed it that far. It's balanced to be kind of a slow paced long game but I feel like in order to fully back up that balancing it should get some more content in terms of more different cards and perhaps also some boss waves. We might add stuff at some point :)

@tjmcdonald Not sure if we'll have the time to keep developing it as most of us have full time jobs but I do definitely see the promise :) I'll keep it in mind and maybe we'll have the time at some point to make more out of this.

Pretty neat concept, I wish it would be more predictable for me how my choices have impact on gameplay. Nice job!
