Doodle Ball by Beritens

[raw]
made by Beritens for Ludum Dare 45 (JAM)

You don’t start with nothing, but you start with just a tiny drop of ink left in your ink container. Draw lines to progress forward. The more distance you reach the more ink you will have available in your next run. While progressing make use of the power ups and try to use the rubber bands in your advantage. They might backfire! Oh, and avoid the inkblots. Sell your ink for a little boost at the start or unlock new balls with different behaviours. This was our first Ludum Dare. Even though we had some struggle finding a suitable game concept for the theme “start with nothing” we decided to go with our best idea after a good amount of uneventful brainstorming.screenshot1.png Edit: I want to make sure you know that you can draw while the ball is moving :D

A nice relaxing game. Very simple but I spent some time in it. My only problem is that when you have a lot of ink you can't really use it, because your screen isn't wide enough. Maybe scrolling that follows the mouse?

Took me a while to understand the principle, but i am glad i made it as far as 45. Maybe i am just clumsy. Cool game!

Fantastic. Love the idea of expanding on your resources as well as how the game presents how losing might be actually winning. Music is absolutely lovely. Bravo!

Love it! Kind of confusing at first when I could only make a dot, but after a couple of tries I got those flashbacks from when I was younger playing those flash games like Line rider, definitely had a blast playing this game!

Was a bit confused at the start when I had no ink, but once I got it I really enjoyed the concept.

This is a great concept. I would like to see it expanded, especially on mobile. Awesome execution too, 5/5

Cool Game but the trampolines are extremely annoying. I was at like 1250 and one launched me to 500 after i stopped it. Good job.

This game is awesome, great job! Very fun, concise and addictive game loop, and plenty of powerups and upgrades to keep it interesting.

can't stop playing... you should really put this forward. add a hight level, add goals (flying 500 meters high, one straight line etc...)

Amazing, loved it did not manage to get the moon but had some good fun with it for a while, Great job! took me back to the line rider days! the speed upgrade did not do much for me id rather have other pen colors with some varying functions to upgrade maybe.

Very nice game! Had a lot of fun on the early game. But I must be missing a control, I can only draw a single not very long stroke, so even if i place the game on my first monitor and draw a line all the way to the opposite side of the other monitor I can only ever get about 80 ink, and since I can't see where powerups are, going further than that is luck.

@kroltan I hope I don't missunderstand you. Are you only drawing a single line at the start? Once you release your mouse the ball is moving but you are still able to draw while the ball is moving. This way you can manipulate the ball to get to a powerup and continue the run.

Wow man. This game very much surprised me. I played like, an hour of it. It is so very addicting and satisfying when you get a really big chain of powerups. The most satisfying thing of all was when you got the bouncy ball, got a whole lot of speed, and then hit a bouncer thing and get propelled all the way across the map. One thing though. The music got VERY annoying. It was just a loop of piano cords. It would be great to have a way to toggle it off. Great Work!

Fun and cool game! Feels very polished and it definitely reminds me of some classic games I used to play. Music gets old after a while. Great job really enjoyed this one!

@coatline @kyle-bowman Thanks for the feedback. We are glad you like the game. I know the music can get annoying, sorry about that. We wanted to do everything by our own and I tried to create something on the piano. The catch is I started learning the piano by myself just a little while ago. Therefore my skills are very limited but it was fun trying to come up with something.

A really interesting and fun little game. Both the music and graphics is pretty good. The game starts a bit slow, but when you have played for some time it becomes much better. Overall a really good jam game. Well done.
