Desert is more an artistic experience than a game.

Search the desert for treasures and press E to pick them up.

Use directional keys or WASD to navigate. Use your mouse to rotate the camera around.

Enjoy!

The atmosphere and small quotes the game gives to you really fit well with the theme of this Ludum Dare. Graphically and sound wise, this is a very solid product. Gameplay definitely isn't the focus, so there's not much to say there. "Desert" does really well at what it tries to do. Nice work.

Absolutely stunning. The game is gorgeous, and the music and thin story threads help tie it together into an incredibly immersive experience. I loved all of it. Fantastic work!

Quite a nice little tale/journey. I liked your shader/art style, and maybe it was my eyes deceiving me, but I swear his loot bag gradually grew in size, so nice work with that.. either actually doing it, or the story tricking my mind that it was happening.

Surpringly well made game. The visuals have a unique and beautiful style. The music is awesome too! The small quotes you include were really impactful (but the font used wasn't that fitting, sadly). I felt that the animation for picking up objects was a little bit too long. Also, the game should have had something before it starts (like a cutscence or menus), in my opinion.
All in all, great job!

I like the environment but I think the character moves a bit to slow for me. Good job.

This was an interesting concept and quite nice visuals I have to say. The music was suiting as well. Very great work, I hope you'll keep up the good work !!

I absolutely love this entry!

HUGE props for making something completely outside the traditional theme/genres. I feel it's important to recognize that there are more possibilities then what we typically see with interactive mediums. I think adding some very subtle sound effects for walking or environmental sounds would have made this perfect. As well I think if you could find a more subtle way to dissolve the foot tracks that would be great.

Thank-you for making this <3

Interesting art-style.
Camera probably should be placed farther from character -- this increases feel of scale/emptiness (which should be good for desert).
Also, a simple thirst/water mechanics would make sense for the desert (if you wanted to make it a game).

Amazing experience, can't believe a jam game gave me feels, WELL DONE!!!

just few recomendations, some items were unpickable and it annoyed the hell out of me, and the game just closes in the end, that scared the hell out of me...

Good Job! Keep it up :D

Out of any games that deserve the title "Desert," this is the only one. With the name Desert there needs to be an atmosphere that is harsh and hot, this game establishes that perfectly. Your feet are never above ground, you're slow, you're tired, the graphics and mood of this game are perfect. The poetic narrative was a great touch which was unexpected. Amazing job!

The art style, atmosphere and music is all really good. The story is okay, but I would have liked a bit more content in it. Overall is this a good jam game. Well done.

Definitely a different feeling from a lot of the other submissions, stands out from the crowd! Liked the atmosphere, aesthetic of the graphs and the soundscape, really sets the mood.

I understand how it relates to the theme, but I don't think it really benefits from it. At least the theme isn't the interesting part of the game, if you understand what I mean. But maybe I'm overthinking it :)

Good job on the submission!

I like the graphic style and the narrative a lot. I would add a collider to the outer level border though XD

As stated, it's hard to call it a game as such...
It's not much fun, but I understand that fun wasn't the goal here.
I adore games that focus on the emotional layer and carry more meaning than plain "shoot everything that moves"
I don't really think that it's possible to pull one of these masterpieces in such a short time. Your game is without a doubt the most powerfull experience I've seen on this LudumDare, but it comes short when it comes to maintaining the players attention. It feels monotonous and plain boring after picking up a few items.
Nonetheless it is impressive.

I liked the art style a lot! It remembered me some of innovative shaders used in games like Return of the Obra Dinn. But i didnt felt ok playing it, i dont know why. Walking and collecting itens, while I listened to the story was ok, but the loop felt strange to me. The pacing was slow i think. But you have achieved something cool here! Congratulations!

Nice work! I guess there's only one "end" to it all? I missed a few of the popups because I was picking up things too fast, and they started overlapping one another. What a depressing little story - but beautiful visuals!

A great experience ! Love it !

I didn’t notice if we slowdown gradually when we collect stuff. Could be interesting for the gamefeel.

Another little idea: an effect of heat could also be interesting.

Great work

Excelente jogo. Se encaixa muito bem no tema e foi um experiência muito interessante. O visual é muito bonito. Gostei bastante do shader que vocês criaram. O detalhe do personagem ir perdendo velocidade a medida que vai coletando objetos é muito interessante também. Bom trabalho!

Although storytelling is your main goal here, I think that there are more ways to do so than just text on the screen. Especially when we're dealing with such a visual medium. The character himself shows no struggle until the very end. It would be nice to see a sense of desperation as he tries to carry as much as he can--I think this would help bridge the gap between the story and the character. Also, it would be nice if the camera rotated the character instead of using wasd for both rotation and movement. Beyond those couple of things, I thought you did a great job on the theme and I think you absolutely nailed the mood. Well done!

The music, visuals and pace of the main character's movement set the tone perfectly. The idea behind the story was nice, but I think it would have made more sense if the text started appearing sooner in the experience. Also, as much as I liked the graphics, there seemed to be some stylistic inconsistencies, like the dots on the main character and the texture on the pillars didn't quite fit with the rest of the scene. Otherwise, excellent job! I could listen to the soundtrack all day.

It was an artistic experience indeed. I liked your graphics, you noticed that there was a lot of investment into this. The music was perfect for the environment... Deep and mysterious... The walking through the dessert could have been a bit quicker though. I went to the wrong corner of the dessert and almost got stuck at the end of world. The way back took a while, but at least I had a nice view. ;)
I wish the story would have a bit deeper, that would have lifted your game a lot.

But over all very good job! Congratulations to you all!

The game creates the feeling of a discoverer, as if exploring a distant planet.
Of the graphics, I especially liked the footprints in the sand!
