Rag Racer or: How I learned to stop worrying and love the bump by CaptainDreamcast

Legendary bike racer Mike Glovemaker had it all! Fame! Mansions! The golden edition of the Nintendo World Championship cartridge! But it was all taken from him when the public found out that he spends most of his days in his underwear sitting on his couch! But Mike will not give up! He will gain back the public's trust, even without a motorcycle! Will he be able to make his grand comeback as... THE RAG RACER OR: HOW HE LEARNED TO STOP WORRYING AND LOVE THE BUMP™?!

So yeah, do you ever get the thought "I wonder how Outrun does its 3D effect" and then follow up the thought with "Wow, I should test that out in a 48-hour gamejam"? Good times. I hope the physics aren't too frustrating, if it's any consolation, the game isn't very long. If nothing else I feel like I accomplished my personal goal of involving the player more. In a bit of an unusual way, but that still counts!

Update: Dreamcast version is up.

Very funny game and I liked the music, took me a few tries before I worked out how to not keep crashing into the side. Well done on your entry.

The game was quite weird, which is appreciated when one of the voting categories is humor :D I also appreciated the homage to those old racing games.

That was a very funny game, I honestly think I laughed out loud a little bit when the race was starting!

I did have trouble figuring out exactly how to control properly, and ended up going sideways while exploding quite a lot. I managed to get to second place on my third attempt!

About time I dust off my dreamcast. 5 stars.

The wind around my nethers. The deadly corners of a non-euclidean racetrack. The 4th wall break that would make Psycho Mantis proud. Finally, a racing game to steal the pole position from Hot Throttle.

I like the bit with the coin, and I did actually put a dime on my PC.

I finished the game, but I never felt comfortable with the controls at all. It did look pretty authentic though.

Pretty funny graphics, and neat idea to start from nothing and build up a bike, but damn it was just so hard to deal with the turns in this game. Overall impressive work for a jam tho, well done!

Nice interpretation of the theme. The turns were a little bit hard though !

I won!

Here was my experience:

I was in from the start. So I got up from the couch, went to the bedroom, in the closet there is a bag of change, and I felt around inside for a quarter. 1967! A classic. I put it on the PC, even before the threats. But the threats were still good, an indication of where we were going in our journey together, this game and me.

Then I started th-SMASH.
I started the r-SMASH.
Wh-SMASH.
SMMMMMAAAAAASMASMASH!

There was a period of adjustment.

Even after learning my lesson, I had to learn it again. And again.

I just had a really hard time not pressing "Right Arrow Key" in the followingly pictured scenario:

![DontTurnRight.png](///raw/81b/z/296c6.png)

So I only got second place finish... THAT TIME.

After my not-turning skills were a little bit better honed, (SMASH!!) I wrecked some dudes stole their shit and finished first, then underwent some of the world's best medical care.

I mean, this game works because it owns it. It walks what it talks, and it talks what it walks.

Charming and enjoyable, well done.

Look, man I don't have a coin..... please I have a family. I liked the theme integration very, road rash. However, I could not see the track coming ahead of me very often and kept crashing over and over again.

This is some absolutely galaxy brain stuff my dude, I need to bust out the Dreamcast controller. Perspective was really neat and I was BUMPIN' some slow boys, although some of the track curves seemed practically unavoidable. Always fun to see that radical explosion though.
