Learning the Human by Savvy Community
Hi!
Every week our team gathers to create a game in 1 day, (usually in 8 hours but this time we took a bit more). It's always about a theme somehow related to education, and this time we picked the theme "Non-verbal Communication". We decided to join the Ludum Dare late and use "Start With Nothing" as an additional theme!
In our game you play an alien landing on earth, and you have to communicate with the folks around in order to be friends.
"Learning the Human" is a game about communication, except you will not be using a single word. You'll have to make do with only emoticons! (:
Try it out and give us feedback!
Cheers

Art is lovely, really like the style, and the sounds were funny! Missing some kind of ambient music to raise the mood
Though, as other pointed out, the logic is a bit hard to follow.
But that's ok, since having a hard time understanding the communication is the basis of the game.
As for the comments about W and A not working :
It seems that this is a french game. And for some obscure reasons, french people use ZQSD instead of WASD, due to a different keyboard layout. So, it's not that the keys aren't working, but rather a different layout, and an oversight from the devs, that most people are in WASD.
I couldn't get to the end, I managed to unlock something like 5 emojis and then gave up since couldn't make more progress.
The gameplay gets frustration after a while but a really interesting idea
Also for anyone struggling with controls, the Arrow keys still work.
Why do the speechbubbles have hitboxes?
W and A are not working so I had to maneuver with the arrow keys.
I also would have liked some more hints. The trial and error was a bit frustrating.
But I love the noises the characters make and also the art is lovely :)
Interesting concept, nice entry!
Thank you all so much for playing and for the kind words, and apologies for replying to all of you at once.
We are indeed a French team who completely forgot about this ZQSD/WASD thing! We began working on the game Monday so we pretty much had to rush for every aspect of the game (especially the professional sound effects ). We’ll fix the game after the LD finishes for fairness.
We try to make an educational game in one day every week, so you might find some other games you like on our page https://savvy-community.itch.io. Your feedback on our existing games, and ideas about future ones **are more than welcome**!
Great job everyone. Much love. :handshake::alien:
