Spooky Cemetery by JGugino

[raw]
made by JGugino for Ludum Dare 45 (JAM)

You wake up in a dark spooky cemetery with no idea of how you got there. You must find your way out or be stuck in the cemetery forever.

TIP: Use the flashlight to slow down the ghost so you can make your escape.

Congratulations for making this game !
I'll be honnest, the game is pretty empty and repetitive. I can feel you tried to create a spooky scary ambiance ! Carry on, you're on the good way !

@wakobu Thanks for the feedback! I do agree that it does feel empty, I didn't have as much time as I would have like to work on it but I still wanted to create some for the jam. I tried to make up for the lack of content by making it as spooky as possible, I think I did an alright job in that aspect lol.

I can't see anything and the F key doesn't do anything either. :( sorry I really wanted to play as the game is similar in concept to mine. I won't rate for now, maybe you can help me.

I get the concept of the game, I think you could call it a horror exploration game and I see how this fits the theme of the jam. For me, it is pretty clear that there was an effort to make a game related to the topic and I think that part is done well. It is interesting to start a game like this with no flashlight and I enjoyed that part. The mechanics are simple and appropriate but I would suggest you test and increase in the player movement speed. I liked the part of the where there was no light but after a bit, your eyes need to make a bit of an effort to see the map. If you increase the movement speed of the player you could reach the flashlight much sooner making it easier for your eyes. Second I think It would also improve the game to have a different level design where it was more clear for the player to understand the way to the flashlight. My opinion this would not harm the overall feel of the game nor the exploration elements. The art style is appropriate for these games and I really liked the ghost's sprite. Regarding sound effects, the sound of the ghost was really terifing, hehe good job. Overall it was a nice game and I liked to play it :).

@jesus-gonzalez The F key will toggle the light only once you have found the phone item, the phone is down the first path you go by at the start of the game where the dialogue box pops up. Hope this helps.

@pedro-rosa Thank you for the feedback, it's much appreciated! I agree that the lack of light does get make your hurt a little and the player does move a little slow. I messed around with the light a lot and that's what I settled on cause if I made it too much brighter you could just go through the game with put ever needing the light. As for the speed, I tweaked that a lot too, but couldn't seem to get it just right. If I had more time, I could have tweaked it more but I was really strapped for time this jam. But anyway I'm glad you enjoyed!

Some nice touches in this game - good atmosphere / spooky mood, inventory is nice, and overall easy to navigate.
I found the keys, but gave up a while because I wasn't sure how long it was going to take me to find the next means of progression. My life was improved when I discovered you could press shift to go faster, but I didn't see any indication of that in the "controls" section. I liked the ghosts - they actually felt pretty spooky! I liked the environment and it was cool to stumble upon the temples/buildings, but woulda been even cooler if something happened when you found them, even if it was just some text. Nice game overall.

The mood is definitely present, it's dark but not impossible to walk without the light, so it's nice. I also liked the night ambiance sounds/noises, they really improved the immersion. I had much trouble finding the light, I did on my second attempt. I had some issues with the sound of one ghost that continued for the whole try, even though I had escaped it.
