Get A Job, Baby! by XeduR

[raw]
made by XeduR for Ludum Dare 45 (JAM)

Originally intended as a COMBO project, but due to lack of time and insufficient preparation due to learning about LD45 too late, I had to push to to a JAM project.

The game is about being a newborn baby who has nothing and is put to work. Your goal is to earn as much as you can in the next 12 months.

The game was completed as a solo project under 12 hours and the game's source code can be found on Itch.io.

Damn the gameplay of this is actually awesome, it has so much replayability. A few art assets and this is a nice little game!

Yeah, I am thinking of continuing this project after LD45 ends. I have around 15 more mini games (and interactive traps) that I had planned, as well as the improved graphics, but I just completely ran out of time due to poor time management.

@xedur in my opinion you actually have something pretty neat here it definitely has the potential to take off.

I love the loop! it reminds me of the mobile game Reign. Simple yet effective. Great work on this one.

Simple but effective! I don't know if I tried all the minigames, but the ones that I did, they were pretty fun

The fishing one is by far the best i found. The sheep minigame lost a few since not all clicks registers. But all in all it was quite fun

Very special game, humorous and ironic (I hope), with a very nice happy end... That s the true american way of life. Cool.

Made a fortune spearing fish, then lost it all gambling. Returned to my parents with tens of thousands of debt. A+++

Special game, but at some scene is too long to wait the time.

@zc74560 Yeah, it requires a lot of polish and fine-tuning. I had only run the game on a simulator before submitting it and the delays were fine. However, with the HTML build, there seemed to be occasional lag spikes that caused unfortunate delays and too long wait times. This'll be fixed via preloading the scenes, but I doubt I'll do that for this LD version.

Fantastic job! Loved the humor and the mood. I liked how it repeats at the end. The fishing mini game in particular was very satisfying.

This was surprisingly fun! I made so much money fishing and gambling.

I instinctively spam clicked on the BUY/SELL buttons, but I think you were supposed to just hold them down. Perhaps the buttons could emit square particles while holding down to visibly show the amount of money you're raking in?

@jefvel That's a great idea. I had arrived to the same conclusion as well. This is again one of those "I'll add it to the list" issues that need further polish and development time. I cut down almost all graphics from this build as I nearly ran out of time, and it shows. :D

Nicely done! I like how the game restarts as you playing as a sibling - very flavorful. I learned, as in life, that gambling was NOT the answer.

Impressive how only a few colored squares can replace other types of assets ! The game was really funny and enjoyable, good job ! ps : some games seemed easier than other and i didn't get the meaning of the % next to the money during the current game

@kerdelos The % represented your performance at the job. The better performance, the more days you'd work that month until you'd be fired. The difficulty levels were also a bit mixed as I rushed the game together.

Nice job making me feel like really playing those minigames by just clicking rectangles.
Good game and concept for the Jam. Great Job!

The lesson I took away here is to never, ever try gambling, it just puts you in debt and makes you lose all the money you made honorably at Wall Street.

Super funny game, I chuckled at every dialogue in the game. The mini games were cool too, my favorites were the gold digging and the Wall Street ones, I made mad dosh off them. Had a great time playing your game.
