Peak Performance by mmason

[raw]
made by mmason for Ludum Dare 45 (JAM)

Are you ready to reach peak performance?

A physics/idle/building game for LD45. Use the tools given to you in whatever way you can figure out to unlock and build all the things that exist.

Control hints

Left click and drag to move most things (including yourself once that is unlocked), right click to interact with things.

To start pick things up manually just by hitting them with the mouse, and placing them with the right mouse button.

To help with testing without the full idle game experience a "fast mode" is available that lets you finish without much need for optimization and grinding.

The game has a few quirks, But I really liked the idea of catching the stuff and using it to upgrade/build your stuff  ! Great job!

Hey, can you fix the fact that I can't see the mouse in the start screen? It makes it really hard to click on the start button

Ya hard to figure out exactly what's happening early in the game, disappearing sprites didnt translate to "its stored in the mouse" even with the mouse click prompts it took me some time :/

I can't really understand the game. The instructions could be a bit more clear, or maybe I'm just dumb :D

@foo-squashed-games just fixed it, the actual game starts out without the cursor but that is intended

@ekoxe Thanks!

@foo-squashed-games We were trying to convey that you can click anywhere, but I guess that did end up looking like a button :S

@its-jackal @xedur Yeah, we tried a few things to try and make the early game more clear, but its still pretty trial and error. We wanted to add an animation to make it more like things are moving in/out of the mouse, but didn't really have time.

Pretty fun game, with an evolutionary concept that evokes text-based clickers. It was a pleasure unlocking these different tools and interacting with them !

Pluses :
- Simple gameplay loop and straightforward controls
- Fun tools, satisfying evolution
- The fast mode is a great addition

Possible improvements :
- Some graphic glitches
- Some interactions are not entirely clear.
- Spawn rate of collectibles could be slightly higher.

All in all, great job !

@jlv Thanks! One of the items you can make in the game actually accelerates the drop when you place them over a black hole. Fast mode was frankly needed for sanity's sake while replaying the game for testing, then we decided to make it available in the final game.

I had difficulty getting the hang of it, but it was fun!

Really interesting game! Like others have said, it seemed a bit indecipherable at the start but I quickly got the hang of what you were going for.

Once I grasped how to play the game, I thought it was very unique and interesting! I think an inclusion of some more UI would help new players.

Really cool idle game! It could maybe benefit from a custom cursor? I find my mouse getting a bit lost against the grey background

Took some time to figure out, but I liked the puzzle-ish nature of it. Definitely more unique than most entries.

The idea was really interesting, though it took me a while to figure out what to do! A different take on the theme than what I've seen so far.

Wasn't quite sure what to do at first, but eventually got the hang of it. Ran into a few graphical issues, but otherwise very nice.

Simple to understand and pretty effective. Idle game, so, easy to get addicted. I liked the progression and, no UI, but everything is simple to understand. The music is chill, good for this game  Nice work !

I don't really understand how to play :/. It seems like the clicks may not be registering?

Thanks for playing, glad you enjoyed!

@zenpj we had intended to add a custom cursor with some special UI elements on it but ran out of time

@slagthor what OS are you playing on, or WebGL? we did have an issue where clicks weren't getting registered at the very start, did you see anything on the screen?

It's actually really fun ! Trying to figure out how to make all the peaces fit together to automate the processes can be tricky sometimes but it was really interesting :)
Also, that was a good idea to not make the end portal end the game directly, in case we still wanted to have fun with what we created before ^^

@t-bo Thanks for playing, I'm glad you enjoyed it!

@inferture Thanks for playing! We had a discussion about the end portal, we didn't want to surprise people with it cutting back to the start screen so the portal has a message box on it. We had hoped to add a zoom so you could zoom out and take a picture if you wanted to.

I got like 5 minutes in before I realized that I could just hold down left mouse to collect stuff... It would be helpful to have a counter for how much you've collected. And then it was another couple minutes before I realized I could move the set pieces. Not sure whether I can shrink down the funnels, but they really filled up the whole screen pretty quickly. I certainly enjoyed it but it would have been helpful to have more detailed instructions. Good work overall!

I like the tinkering with things to figure it out, but a bit of explanation would help a lot. Great job though!

I thiiiink I understood what was happening, but having some kind of counter collector would be helpful. Otherwise it was a very cool and stylish game!
