I liked the sprites and the secretive backstory. Well done!
The game itself was surprisingly lengthy and detailed, it really nailed the atmosphere and I liked the story driven nature. My only technical complaint is that the game's UI is not responsive, which means that I had a scroll bar on my screen resolution and had to scroll to see the dialogue boxes.
Pluses :
- Excellent storytelling, with a bigger plot teased during the first part, and for the backstory to be revealed afterwards.
- Nice graphics
- A ton of care went into prevent the player from getting lost, so kudos for that.
Possible improvements :
- Although it contributes to the mood, the slow movement linked to the space suit tends to get old
Overall, great little game !
The ambiance is very cool. The computer is explaining to you what you have to do when you're stuck, and it's a very good idea.
I liked my suit and the fact that my speed was very low, with this nice breath sound.
I think I finish the game when I put VHS on the computer, but there was no "real end" (or I missed it!)
Congrats! Nice game!
@zsombro, yes, we did not get that one. We might put in a bugfix next couple of days. Thanks for reporting :D
@appoxgames Sorry, but no clue. I didn't give the creature much thought when doodling it ;)
@tomfu, @itsdanidre true, it is unfortunately incomplete ;) We planned several endings and did not find the time in the end
@tomfu @itsdanidre
@adam-konig Very fair point with the text triggers. We started a little to late rounding out these little edges :D
@pierallard
I think you've reached all the content we've managed to implement. In the end we needed to curtail the story a bit because of time pressure. Thanks for the feedback :)
And sorry for the maybe a bit too slow space-suit movement. I guess that's my fault :D
Thanks a lot for all the critiques so far!
- The player hitbox could be smaller.
- You can read the newspaper when looking in any direction as long as your are in front of it.
- The fact that things are forbidden for use with the message "I don't have time for that" get a bit disappointing with time.
Thanks for the game :)
@lukvasando, sorry if the game made you feel that way, that was not the intention :) You did not miss anything. So no worries, you're certainly not stupid: We could not cramp the whole story in there... If you explore a bit after Lisa announces your jobs to be done, you still might get some idea where we were going.
@smitto Thanks :) Since you give feedback here, I think it's possible to ask a question here to your game... In case anyone reads this and wants go over to check smittos excellent game out: Spoiler alert! When I get to the computer-room there is a person standing around who I cannot interact with even after clearing the room. I noticed something was floating above the room (a green teddy-bear?) but could not turn in any way that I could get it into view or interact with it
@lanalux Thank you. And thanks again for playing it live. I really enjoyed your stream, and subscribed to watch the other test-plays :)
Fun: The fun in this game comes from discovering the story. And I think it's a really great story. Short, of course, but I really like the idea. Well done. (Have I really seen everything - I watched the VHS but I don't know if I can do anything with the username found on the sticky note? And there's a line along the lines of "don't go to the cryo chambers" - that strongly suggests that I can and should go to the cryo chambers - but I found no way.)
Innovation: Yeah - innovative storytelling!
Theme: Sure, it's there quite nicely in the plot reveal.
Graphics: Nice! All the graphics look good and consistent. I like the way Dave looks. (And of course they would make him look that way!) Animating Dave putting on his spacesuit - that really goes above and beyond expectations.
Audio: Nice!
Humor: Yeah, I enjoyed exploring all the terminals and reading the quirky messages.
Mood: Good, thanks to the memorable story and accentuated by appropriate graphics and music.
@r2d48 Yep, sorry, we planned several endings and did not get to it. In the end it was a trade-off between polishing and contents.
@reheated Same there... the sticky note and newspaper were part of our story-script but did not make it in the end. Same holds true for the cryo chambers :(
The font felt a bit out of place though and the gameplay is kind of lacking, but hey it's a jam.
