NoThIng by Erkberg

[raw]
made by Erkberg for Ludum Dare 45 (COMPO)

NoThIng is a rather abstract, story-driven game composed of multiple genres. Start from nothing in several activities and listen to your guide, Nosferatu The Ingenious.
All platform versions and source are available on itch.io: https://erkberg.itch.io/nothing

~ Bonus points if you... ~
... can guess which videogame character inspired the look of NoThIng (hint: it's from a criminally underrated SNES game) (the timelapse does spoil it though)
... find the NuMetal reference :)
... tell me if there are performance problems on your device (because I'm experiencing some, but my laptop is quite a few years old)

~ Special thanks to... ~
... my super-buddy @guckstift! We jammed together at his place (though not as a team) and it was amazing! Check out his game here: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/45/nothing-box

~ Tools used ~
Unity, Visual Studio 2019, FL Studio (Plugins from Spitfire and DSK), Blender, GIMP, Audacity, jfxr

~ Timelapse ~

Font used in some parts of the game: Black Chancery
I fixed one bug after the deadline: The mouse cursor kept standing in its last position in the final activity instead of being in the center of the screen.

This was an interesting game that has a mix of several different genres such as "clicker" and "FPS", and can be completed in a single sitting. Switching genres like this in-game keeps it really interesting! Don't know why this has zero ratings right now---more people should give it a try!

@geoff-nagy: Thanks for your kind comment! Well, it probably has no ratings yet because the compo just ended and a lot of people are still hard at work finishing their jam games. And I haven't started rating yet, so no karma / coolness yet. But I certainly hope that a lot of people will give it a try :)

This was a really nice experience :)
I like how all of the ideas are tied together into a fun story. The music was good as well.
Great work!

A nice experience. I found the character funny and cute, and the game has a general good feel to it. I found the switching between genres pretty funny, with a nice message using the theme. I liked the ONE puzzle, would have been nice to see some more. The music was pretty good as well. Great work!

Dear Mr. Erk bro! A little bit late but here we go:

Though I'm not that guy that loves reading all the time while playing games, your work really intrigued me. The main character Nosferatu quickly grows on you while playing, emits cute squeek sounds when clicked and seems to be very empathic with everyone that wants to be friends with him. Unusual but creative interpretation of the theme no stress no rush and a nice calming little black Tic Tac sandbox at the end.

One little problem I had last time playing: I couldn't trigger the ending dialogue anymore while collecting and throwing TicTacs around for a couple of time (also throwing at NoThIng).
Thanks for this wonderful Jam weekend with you at my home place. As always: I enjoyed it a lot and hope you did as well!
