Run... Away? by blint6

[raw]
made by blint6 for Ludum Dare 45 (COMPO)

Some kind of runner where you start with nothing. Would you stay with nothing?

intrigue.png

Even if you think you did nothing, surrendering can be the solution.

But why not building up your own rules?

The game is very short and not as complete as expected in terms of level design and overall content. However, it's working! Being new to game development and for a very first game jam, I'm happy to have a working deliverable (Even though much too short!)

To reviewers: THANK YOU for trying my stuff out! Even though I'm new here, please be harsh on me and I would appreciate all kinds of criticism, so please let me know!

The ideal idea was to make a "runner" game that involve back and forth motion, instead of only having the stress of being chased. As for the theme, "Start with nothing" was the idea of starting with literally nothing (even in the life of the character) and building up momentum with weapons, unprecedented crimes and escalating military chase.

This game is made with Godot game engine.

Solid entry for the first game jam! I really agree with the comment above. It's a game jam just have fun and do not burn out.

Jumping sound kinda hurts my ears.

Other than that cool work!

Congratulations on your first jam :D Never was flower picking so cruel... The character controls feel realy good. I loved the dialog system, it seemed robust, and the graphics were lovely. Also the shooting had an overal great achievement factor. I had some issues figuring out what I can and can't shoot. I enjoyed your game very much :) I hope you had fun making the game :D

To be Continued. The concept is good. Maybe you can add more variants in the game to extends more fun. The beep sound is a little to loud. The broken building make me exciting, and maybe it deserved more gameplay design. The final tank give me a interesting imagination for the following "big adventure". Good job.

Very charming :) I loved the beginning with picking up the flower and smelling it. And the graphics and dialog boxes were cute and meshed well together. It would be fun to see an ever-escalating back and forth of running from baddies, getting a gun upgrade, beating them back, then the tables turn again :D (as I assume it was implied in the ending).

Just one tiny nitpick; when I had the gun and had to destroy some parts of the level to climb on, it was kinda hard to tell if I was shooting at the right spot (i.e. a spot that's scripted to be blown up after a few shots). Adding some effect, like chipped pieces of wall falling down while you're shooting, would be a nice fix for this.

Thank you everybody for your encouragement!

@fictions @tadeas-paule took note of the unclear breakability. I added meaningful bullet explosions on breakable things but we probably need some sort of crack at first. I like the idea of having broken particles!

Sorry @iozsaygi @justuspan for the jump sound, I did lower its volume quite a lot though (thankfully!) will bring more attention to SFX next time!

God dammit right when I got the machine gun I was like "No pity for the cops" and I pressed my CTRL button so hard I almost broke it :D

Really nice work for a first jam dude, don't be ashamed, really, my first jam was way worse ! I'm sure you'll get better and better very fast :)

This game made me laugh at the jokes, great work. The graphics are not bad at all and I don't think it's a bad thing that it's quite short, what's there is good quality. Great job!

Your game was very nice. It was smooth and polished, even though it was very short. I didn't see a single bug or problem, and the gameplay was fun. It felt like a nice start for a full game.

While the game is pretty short, I thought the gameplay was fairly fun, and absolutely hilarious at time. I was not expecting a machine gun whatsoever, and I laughed my *ss off when I got the option to shoot the cops. A+ for humor

It's really a quality game for your first game jam! I like the visuals despite their simplicity and I like the little dialogues you've integrated. A little music to accompany us would have been great :)

Thumbs up for your first entry in a game jam. You did great! First and foremost: Your game is very accessible and you introduced the story very well. This is great, because many games are confusing. I like the environment. The ladder is a bit hidden and shooting buildings should maybe be more obvious, but it's ok. I would have loved to use my chaingun on more agents! It's such a great weapon even though the bullet spread seems a bit too wide.

Solid entry! Congrats for finishing a game in time. Only feedback I would give would be that the sound effects seemed really loud. But perhaps that was just me..

Solid, good art, fitting sound effects it was a nice foundation to a game, though having something more complete would have definitely been appreciated.

For a first game jam this is good. You've got all the basic stuff there and just need to flesh it out!

Great job for your first game! its got quite good art and a good story. Going from picking flowers to firing miniguns is quite the change XD

also this game is probably the closest to my game that I have played so far, but it's not very similar to mine.
