Protector by Arcus

made by Arcus for Ludum Dare 45 (JAM)

You start with no safety from the invasion of zombies. Make a shelter, and fight off zombies. A pretty rushed and rubbish game, but I thought I might as well publish it anyway...

I like the idea of resources you made up. First zombie game I've seen here. Nice!

the movement is funny and the atmosphere is cute, however the hit sound when you hit a zoombie is being played perhaps on everyframe thereafter, which makes it very loud

Interesting game, needs a lot of work though. I really liked the character art that was done, and the game concept was interesting! There is a lot of inconsistency with the visuals though, like how the ground is a completely different resolution to the character sprites. Keep it constant throughout the whole game. I'd also suggest adding circular shadows below charaters so that they stand out and feel more apart of the world. A more gradual difficulty curve needs to be added as well; as soon as you enter the world you are surrounded by enemies. It should be timed with the player's skill with the game, so have the player get familiar with the controls and movement before forcing them into using their skill to combat a challenge. When I was playing I never really understood the purpose of building shelters, either. Consider putting the player in a situation where they are encouraged into using the shelters, perhaps during combat, so that they learn through gameplay experience its importance. More visual and audible feedback can be added as well, maybe make the screen shake when shooting, or the player flash red when getting hit? Overall an okay game, but there's a lot of potential here! Looking forward to seeing your future projects. Well done! :)

Decent attempt, but as you stated it's very rushed. Movement is quite slow overall, and zombies sometime get stuck in level geometry. Music is OK, but sounds are jarring.
Still with all its flaws in current state, it's a seed of potentially fun game

The gameplay works quite well but it needs to be more polished. I did'nt understant how to progress in the game, the "game complete" is stuck at 0%.

Hey, have a nice time playing! Congrats! <3

Perhaps investing in a bit of clarity about the player's goals would be great to make them more mission focused rather than trying to understand what to do in the game.

@danilo-freire, @chocolat-endive : The games counter is not stuck at 0%. It was a quickly thrown together idea to make the game have an ending. Every item you create increeces the counter by ten, whilst each zombie alive decreces it by five. This lead to some odd gameplay where the counter would stay at 0% (like said) until a point where it reached 100% in very little time.

This was basic, but fun. I liked the piano track. It took me a while to figure out how to do stuff. The goals weren't obvious either - I only ever got to 5% finished, because I didn't understand what I was after until reading what was above. But, a good start on something that could be cool. Nice work.

Could definitely see where you were going with this, and it was fun for the amount of content that was there. Shelters were a cool idea!
