This game was fun! It took me a while to get to grips with how to fight effectively but once I got rolling down and backing away while fighting, the game was genuinely quite fun. The hardest part was when you started with nothing, but once the bows and swords come into play it becomes a lot easier - Nice work. If I was to offer some criticism however, because the game essentially forces you to stick with the best gear it became a situation of dodging or walkking backwards instead of experimenting - if you could do something like the weapons break after a few uses, or armor pick ups for health, or you move faster / slower with certain weapons to give more variation and force you into another tactic that would, in my opinion, make the game more interesting. Either way nice work! I liked this one

Pretty fun game. The difficulty ramps up way too quickly tho. It took me a few tries to complete second level. Also bow seems to be a bit overpowered, since it has very big range compared to other weapons and also pierces through enemies.

@joellikespigs Thanks! I would have had different armour sets, but the sprite work with weapons and armor was exponential and I wasn't sure how to do it effectively.

@lamossus The bow is pretty powerful, but the armour + sword combo does give you an extra 15 health with faster attacks :sunglasses:

Glory to the Emperor.
The excess of enemies looks funny. Swarms of evil lions, elephants. Wikipedia says that gladiatorial battles also took part in bears, deer, wild goats, dogs, crocodiles, boars, hippopotamuses, and rabbits. Heh.
I would like to see more blood.

This is fun! When I got the trident I was on top of the world! then the bow owned my ass. Love your take on the theme.

Took me a bit to get used to rolling and timing, and it feels like dodging projectiles without rolling (just going up/down) doesn't really work right (they hit more often than not)? But maybe that's just me and my lousy timing.

Nice art, sounds and music! It is a bit too hard for me at the start. Maybe a little less health on enemies at the start? :)

Controls were very responsive and easy to use. It was fun, although I died very quickly during the several times I played. Perhaps the enemies should have less health, initially. But still fun to play!

On a Mac it is not finding the com.badlogix.gdx.ApplicationListener .. maybe you didnt' bundle LibGDX in your jar file?

Definitely one of the more fun games I've played but I couldn't even get past the second round! Controls felt very tight but it was hard to get a grip on exactly when to punch and dodge and which direction to dodge. Very fun game

I almost gave up on level 2. I am glad i didnt because, after figuring out some alternative strategy, i managed to get better and eventually get the trident. I think its thanks to seeing Hajdens comment that i persevered! I got to the level with the gold armor guy. Its a good compo game. I streamed it here: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/492646992?t=01h06m48s

Well executed fighter. Had fun, but the trident guy was too tough. I think you could easily allow dodging backwards without making the game too easy. Fine submission in any case.

"Are you not entertained?!"

This game was so damn fun, one of my most favorite entries! The trident guy is one hell of a challenge but it was fun figuring out how to beat him. After that it kind of got easier but still super fun. Bow and arrow was very powerful but i still loved the armor+sword combo the most, very manly. Loved the last bit where game threw everything at once, caught me off guard and definitely made me try my best to stand victorious. Had this one hilarious moment where a man spawned after i killed lion as if he was hiding inside a lion (Played it second time to make sure i wasn't going crazy, it happened again, seems to be either an intentional thing or a bug, love it either way), definitely gave me a good laugh.

All in all a superb game! Also loved the attack sound, state of the art effects right there.

Difficulty ramps up pretty quick. Maybe I don't know how to use the dodge correctly.
I'm quite fond of the art style, suits the theme well.

Such a challenging game! I feel like most of the challenges are unintentional and they are part of the underdevelopment that comes with a 48 hours game, the simple animations and unclear hit boxes and unbalanced fight mechanics, so the only problem with you game could be easily solved with a bit more time to work on it. Amazing entry for a compo, if you ever feel like working further in the game I would love to see more of it!
