Not able to play right now but I just had to mention the art looks completely stunning

The art (especially the cover) looks amazing. Unfortunately, Wine just displays a black screen.

Really liked the juxtaposition of the game switching between monotonous, simple actions and a stressful race against the storm. As everyone else has already said, the graphics are amazing. Really like the style and the mood, too.
The only two faults I can really point out are:
- For the first minute I was kind of confused as to what I was supposed to be doing.
- The game seems to lack an ending. Or, if it does have one, it didn't load for me.
Overall, I liked the game, the concept's neat, but I think you may have spent too much time on the graphics

@nerdysl0th thanks for the feedback! the game most definitely needed some more background information, giving you more guidance in what to start doing. As for the ending, we had this elaborate idea and an interesting story, but it didn't pan out the way we thought. that is ludum dare after all! thanks for playing!

Really set the mood there. Starting with apocalyptic setting is good use of theme. Good music too and nice pixel art.

I love the graphics man, and the music design, OOO it hits all the marks it needs to. If I had any comments, I would say maybe make it so that you can hold down the 'collect' button on the trash instead of pressing it each search.

Love the apocalyptic setting and the graphics.
Would love to see the game expanded into a full game.

The best aesthetics I've seen so far!! I felt so much alone in an post-apocalyptic desert! It's maybe the reason I'm so frustrated as I dont find the gameplay very interesting. Nonetheless, a pretty solid game overall and a really good entry.

@quantumsno thanks for the feedback! i do agree that the collecting items mechanic could be streamlined a bit, but maybe adding another intricacy, instead of holding down to get items. like a meter you need to keep above a certain point for long enough. idk, food for thought. anyways, thanks so much for playing!

@technsmile so sorry you didn't find the gameplay interesting! when we started, we had a whole list of things to add to keep the player busy, such as traps for lizards and rats you'd need to eat, upgrades for knowing when the storm is approaching, etc, etc... but, as the curse of ludum dare states, you can never finish everything you set out to do. thanks for playing!

@technsmile Thanks so much! My objective was really to push myself this LD in terms of graphic design :)

@antoined73 i agree, having the game longer would have been great! we went with a more artistic focus, and left the gameplay more or less on the back burner. we could have maybe spaced out the scrap piles more, but that would have been somewhat boring. anyhow, thanks so much for playing and your feedback!

Always look forward to these games, easily some of my favorite looking stuff to come out of LDs. :)

I like this one quite a bit! I would actually get a little anxious whenever I would venture too far away from my tent. I wish there was a way to purposefully search for specific scrap, though. Digging through random scrap piles in hopes of finding what you're looking for is realistic and fits thematically, but it takes away any kind of strategy or player choice, which means the gameplay can't really evolve.

Still, I really really liked this entry. The tone and mood were top-notch, and as always, the visuals were :ok_hand: :ok_hand: :ok_hand:

The art in this is amazing, awesome work! I thought some of the noises were a little weird but the ambient music pulled the setting together well. Overall fantastic work.

The art and setting are great and I like the kind of simple gameplay - going out and find ressources before the storm comes makes for an interesting loop.

How did you do the purple effect when the cloud arrivess? Did you use another set of sprites or did you use surfaces?
MateusBoga
10. Oct 2019 · 11:54 UTC
@le-don The purple effect was done by swapping all the sprites with purple ones, I had double the work because any sprite I had to do I had to do one in purple as well xD

The game itself is quite simple but very efficient at setting up a great mood. I really enjoyed the sense of oppression from the approaching storm. I'm not sure if the game crashed or something, but I only got a black screen after the antenna sequence: is it the actual ending?
Good job on your game :)
🎤 Matthew Hrehirchuk
10. Oct 2019 · 18:44 UTC
@deepnight about that ending... yeah we had a big elaborate plan and then cut it last minute. the black is supposed to be credits but i forgot to implement in the ld version... it happens. anyways, thanks for playing!

I loved the tone and mood of the game a lot. And I loved the idea of the gameplay loop of scavenging items and building your base.....however in execution I felt that the main mechanic of scavenging was just not fun. Had it just been a little quicker or less repetitive I would have liked it a lot more. Regardless I still think the game is excellent in tone and atmosphere.

Loved the graphics and the music (sandstorm lol). The animations were great too and i would love to see more of this.

Lovely graphics and general mood!
Loved the calm gameplay (and the first rush through the storm when I had to learn that pink clouds are not for breathing) but i kind of wish there was something more to do while waiting for the storm to pass.
If you expand on the game I'd love a crafting minigame or maybe some other problem to solve.

One of my favourites so far!

All very well. The storm in the background is beautiful, but interferes with the gameplay. Because of this storm, you know when to run away, there is no danger. It would be cool to add something to the shelter, because just standing around and waiting isn't fun.
MateusBoga
12. Oct 2019 · 17:03 UTC
@shabbyrtist Thanks! Yea I know the storm is weird right now, the plan was to make it arrive a lot sooner and give just a few seconds for the player to run but unfortunately that was not how it resulted. We also didn't think much about other shelter funcionalities since we had no time for that.

Great mood and I love the animation while he walks in the purple haze! And a plus point that you made it in GMS2, I love game maker! Is there anything after the antenna, or that is the end?

Great art, and love the colour transitions for the storm.

Could be fun with more elements added, and maybe the storm deposits new junk as it passes ( I may do already but I didn't notice? )

Keep making more of this, it's quite unique!

And what is the song in the shelter a spoof of? Sounds like Faithless or something , can't pin it!
