Deal with your Death by nikchernyakov

[raw]
made by nikchernyakov for Ludum Dare 45 (JAM)

On Halloween night even Death doesn’t want to play by the rules. Your life has come to the End. Nothing awaits ahead. But Death gives one last chance: if you manage to defend the Fire of your Soul from Death servants, at the end of the night It gives you a new life.

And if not, you will forever sink into Oblivion.

But… will this night ever end?

Fight for your life: https://test.octothorp.team/ludumdare45

unknown (7).png

Death puts you in the world of its little game. A terrible creepy forest surrounds you. Who knows what lives in it? But you have no tools and weapon so you should get the courage and go deeper into it. There you can find valuable resources: stone, wood and grass. Raw materials can be used to create traps and protective structures. Use traps to defeat enemies and fences to protect the bonfire!

unknown.png

Finish all preparations before the moon turns red! When the Bloodmoon occurs, the enemies begin to attack the bonfire and try to extinguish it.

To protect your Soul Fire you can: - Build wood fences - Use mantraps - Use a trap with falling stone - Throw stones in enemies - Pull the enemy back with a rope (you can collect grass to get rope)

If enemies get to the fire, its flame becomes weaker. Throw the wood into the bonfire to help it flare up. If the bonfire goes out, the game ends. But you always can try one more time… and more… and more… It seems Death wants to play with your forever…

So don’t be surprised if something in this forest is not going according to your plan… All this – you know – flying staff, strange shadows, sky instead of ground… because death will never allow itself to be beaten!

Enjoy our spooky (and cute) Halloween monsters: - Insidious pumpkins, jack-o’-lantern - Jumping spiders - Ghosts ~~seems sweet but really evil~~ - Ancient skulls from your nightmares

Character Control: - W/A/S/D – move - Left button – use item - Mouse wheel – switch between items - E – craft menu

Deal with your Death and try to beat other players in our LD-45 game! We hope you enjoy it! Unfortunately, there are a lot of bugs in the game now but you know all this first-bug-fix-day stuff… We are going to fix all bugs soon so we appreciate all bug-reports and feedback! We hope that together we can improve our little game  And of course make screenshots of all funny moments and bugs! Let’s laugh together before Halloween :joy:

The game looks great! Concept is great too, one of the best crafting games I've seen so far. Resource collection process probably requires some tweaking (e.g. tim eot cut a tree, auto-repeating actions, more dense resource location near the campfire to give you more resources at the beginning etc) to make this process more engaging.

This is a really nice implementation on tower defence genre! Definetely needs some tweaking, but overall a pretty good game!

The game looks really good. Collecting objects is a bit slow, so I run out of time while gathering crafting materials on my first try, but otherwise well done! Sound is great and I like the overall mood of the game :D Good job!

This is fantastic! I didn't know a game like this could run in a browser. The mouse sensitivity was a bit high though.

game looks good, but for me it was quite difficult to understand.
after just a few minutes collecting resources I just died some times (don't really understand the reason),
I didn't manage to see any monsters =(
And one thing I find a little difficult was to collect rocks, they are really small.

Hi, I liked the game it was fun. I really love the art style, your low-poly is really good looking. Only one suggestion. Please please please lower the mouse sensitivity or let the player have some control over it. This made the play so much harder. Overall great job.

Definitely a cool looking game. I wish there were some closer starting resources, and some things seemed really slow, but overall it seemed great.

Hey everybody! Thank you all for playing and commenting. We didn't have enough time to playtest the game so yep... there were some inconvenient things like mouse sensitivity, but thank to you we noticed it and released a patch in which:

- Map generation (yes, it's random every game) was scaled down, so "the biomes" like forest should be more dense
- Tweaked resources requirements for craft recipes
- Lowered camera sensitivity

- Fixed mining process being interrupted
- Fixed sprint (with Shift) matching walk speed, now it's a little bit faster
- Fixed weird movement bugs like camera flipping
- Fixed weird crafted structures placement
- Fixed some recipes disappeared from craft menu

Game updated [on that same page](https://test.octothorp.team/ludumdare45/), you can adjust your ratings if needed <3

I was very impressed by the depth of this game. The simple graphics were functional and didn't look bad at all. I wish there was a few more cues for when the enemies would start spawning, and I was a bit confused about the crafting system at first. I also had some issues with framerate and lag with the web version but that's to be expected since I don't assume optimization is the top priority in a jam lol. Good game!

This is really impressive work for a jam game. It looks pretty good, it sounds pretty good, and it's got a fair bit of content to it. Unfortunately, for me at least, it seemed too hard; I think maybe granting some more time before enemies start showing up would be nice.

@brokenmirrormedia thank you! You can look at the moon, when it becomes full, the sound of a bell plays and this is when enemies go. You can know their spawn location by looking at the burning sparkles in the sky.

@philomory thank you too <3 Yeah, we agree that it could be a little confusing in the beginning, but it's a jam and we tried to focus on gameplay and feel more so there left no time to implement proper tutorial, huh. I think it's a good lesson and if we do another game, we should prioritize making it easy to start playing.

Thank you guys <3

A lot of work done here, good job guys) I like the mood of this game, graphics and sounds are suit well and it's interesting to play. I had to try hard to survive this Halloween) think it's almost impossible to win with the first try, so I had to explore the arsenal night by night

I really like graphics (particles work is amazing) and audio. It really accompanies gameplay very well.

I love the visuals in this game. The particles are on point. The animation when harvesting resources was a little jerky, but it didn't take away from the experience. Great job!
