Color and Creativity by Collin Thompson

[raw]
made by Collin Thompson for Ludum Dare 45 (COMPO)

*Made with Unity with Text-Mesh Pro, and the Post-Processing Stack. Also made with Microsoft Visual Studio, Paint.net, and Bosca Ceoil. *

There is a controls text file in the game files.

The goal of the game is to match the colors of your character up to the color cubes to make the level bigger until you get to the end!

Some of the obstacles are cubes with quotes about the difficulties of working on a game jam game!

Criticism is appreciated! I strive to get better!

Awesome music, love how it slowly builds up! I like the lighting, nice colors and creativity :).

The moving camera makes the movement a bit difficult sometimes.

Great look and the music is pretty good. I feel that this could benefit from checkpoints though. Having to redo a large part of it when you're stuck on a single point gets a little aggravating.

Gorgeous. Absolutely gorgeous. Nice camera work, nice effects.
Could definitely use checkpoints and continuos controls during camera switches.
Good job!

I really like it but there a couple irritating parts.

The fact that when you die you have to start from the beggining, and the camera changes are stopping this from becoming smooth, although i still like the camera angles.

Also, i think the game could use a checkpoint system.

And once you get the ball moving, you can't really stop it, that was really maddening while playing.

A really great game though, i enjoyed it alot!

Thanks for all the feedback everyone, one thing I'm wondering about is everyone mentioning the checkpoint system! I have one checkpoint so I'm guessing that when everyone brings it up they mean more checkpoints, thank you! I appreciate that and all the other compliments and criticism towards the game! Thank you for playing and rating, and good luck with everyone else's games again too! And thank you again for everything again too!

Great execution! Lovely lighting and interesting concept. Had a ton of fun playing it. Those camera switches brought back lots of memories of those old Resident Evil games.

Lol at the "I can't think of anything" guy. That was totally me during the compo.

The music is definitely spooky haha, I wonder if it could have run better cause the effects bogged down all the controls :(. Very interesting take on a platformer.

Looks great, love the atmosphere. Color controls with the mouse are fun.
The combination of extra-loose controls, camera changes, and minimal checkpoint system made the whole experience a bit frustrating though. Made it past the "I can't think of anything" guy after 20 attempts or so and gave up after the next ramp.

The visuals reminded me of beautiful demo scenes and techno demos from some CG events. But I have not even managed to make any progress :( I think you should add some tips and helper-texts, icons at the very beginning of the game or make some explaining demo to act like lite tutorial. The game is also a Cool Wallpaper generator :-).

Cool game! Like the idea of a world & music building gradually (actually had a similar idea in my own game haha). Graphics look nice (post-processing is great) and I love the camera switch. However, it was a bit hard for me, I think the controls are quite hard to master--maybe, increase the drag on player rigidbody :) And also, I wish there were checkpoints. But still a very nice & fun experience, congrats! :D

@room606 Thank you for your kind words, you can click left and right to change color to match to the block, there is a controls and explanation text document in the game's folder. Thank you for downloading it and playing it again! Thank you again!

I found the ball hard to control, especially when the camera changed angles. At the very beginning of the game when you touch the red square and get the cube you have to jump onto to get the blue square, if you are pressing 'W' and then jump up the ball will start moving left when the camera angle changes. Other then the controls I really like the game and the idea of building the level as you play it. Well done!

Trippy, challenging, and unique. Nice job! Though it is a little confusing and difficult at first, I actually liked the challenge of the changing camera angle and thought the progression was well balanced. My only complaint is that the controls are inconsistent with the camera angles; sometimes the orientation of the controls changes to match the new camera angle, and sometimes they just stay the same.

The visual style end the music is pretty amazing in this game. The gameplay idea is simple and it is pretty fun to play. The controls is not the best, and the constant changing camera angels makes the game really difficult to play. Overall is this a good combo game. Well done.

The visuals are cool and so is the gradual soundtrack buildup, but with these highly sensitive controls, frictionless movements and changing camera angles I could only reach the second red pedestal, before giving up after several more tries. >.<

I really like the visuals and music. How it slowly builds up as you complete each puzzle. Some of the puzzles were a bit frustrating but I feel like that has a lot to do with Unity's physics. One of the more unique entries i've seen.

The ball was really hard to controll and I couldn't be bothered to pass the very first level, sorry.
I like the idea that the music kept progressing while you progress, but it was annoying so...
Also, I had to figure out the controls and I think a little message showing how to play the game would have been nice.
Nontheless, it's not a bad game. Keep up the good work !

This is a TOUGH game, that cylinder bridge at the beginning is a killer. I also lost a bunch of FPS as the game progressed, which added to the difficulty. All that being said, I like the game. Its visually awesome and the music and sounds are great too.

Definitely a challenging little game! Ran into a few issues with it switching to the wrong camera angle towards the end, and the music definitely got a bit irritating sometimes, but I generally like the game. The visual style definitely helps it stand out.
