This is super fun and addicting! I just wish I could stay up longer to play. Great job on the gameplay, really enjoyed trying out the different spells, and encountering new enemies with new spells/attacks.

Brilliant stuff! :v:

Bonus points for the MS DOS font ASCII art!

I like it! The gameplay could use some balance adjustments. For example the green homing missle weapon comes with three shots, but it takes three shots with it to defeat an enemy. That means there's a lot of backtracking to pick up used weapons.

Very fun! how did you create your backgrounds?

@unlockingcube The actual background is all black, the "background" is actually tiles that are randomized from an ASCII tile sheet.

This game is really cool, I loved the different enemy types and the screen shake when you use a spell. Nice job
! Also, the text aesthetic was really good to see on screen.

This was a lot of fun, and you did a lot with a little. I tabbed away in the transitions from 6 -> 7 and upon returning I could not get the game to work again. Otherwise awesome.

Super fun! The gradual introduction of spells was rad. I wish the music was just a little louder, it becomes really overshadowed by the sound effects.

The gameplay is smooth and there are a variety of weapons, I found myself mashing E with 2 weapons to carry 2 around with me because backtracking to get ammo and more weapons sucks, especially in the middle of a fight. It was actually pretty difficult.

If hotline miami but with wizards and ASCII art was what you were going for I say you nailed it.

Good job!

This game was a lot of fun! Once I realized that the text was actually walls even inside the levels (which took me way too long to figure out) it was super interesting. I agree that some of the wands are pretty weak and depending on the order you grab them can leave you weaponless against a bunch of enemies, but the audio, design, and gameplay was on point.

Great stuff, the diversity of weapons was nice, and the ASCII art managed to remain readable throughout the game. The music was enjoyable and the sound design was impactful, though the mixing on the audio left the sounds too loud in comparison to the music. The enemy placement tends to be a little brutal, especially in the latter half of the game, especially when it involves the enemy that shoots the insta-beam. The insta-beam enemy should have some form of telegraphing implemented so the player has the foresight to react properly, rather than relying on panic rolling. The limitation of ammo and the guaranteed drops from enemies forced skill refinement and utilization of the wide array of weapons, keeping the game interesting. Overall, nice work.

Great game! Loved everything about it! I wanna see random levels and some roguelite progression and it would be awesome. The ASCII art was beautiful... I wanna see more games using ASCII :(.

Fun game, super engaging to the end.

Gameplay gets harder each level but not too abruptly. The SuperHot vibe is good and visuals are clean&simple.

Music is fun, sound effects fit the rest of the game great. Nice work!

Definitely agree with @coffeedrinkers that random rogue-like levels would be a solid addition.

Great Idea. Love the style and the concept. The implementation is also pretty superb in that small timeframe.

Very interesting design, the title animation kinda hurt my eyes but I still thought it was cool how you got that to work

Awesome game! I found the general gameplay balance to be quite good. The difficulty ramped up nicely and I liked the mechanic of having to be accurate with your shots to conserve ammo. Really fun game to beat :) Great job!

Man the combat in this game is so satisfying. Love screenshake on some of the weapons which really gives weight to them. Also loved the ASCII art <3.

The text backgrounds, walls, platforms, even the health and the spells were very creative! I've very much enjoyed the new spells you can get everytime you defeat an enemy. The messages on the platforms were very grim and dark, but it was fantastic that if you look closer into the backgrounds and actually take the time to spot the good messages, it makes the game much deeper. Overall great game! Loved it.

I enjoyed playing this game. Its one I would like to play again. The audio track while playing is very cool. the game is hard but after many attempts you get to know how it works then you keep playing it even if you do die over and over. Keep working on it.

This is a really good piece. Finished the game in one go, because was just enjoying the process. Loved the spell system, though found the laser beam a little too powerful (at least on enemies xD). And the music, oh, that's a really sweet addition and just sets the right mood. 5/5 for everything. I'd play more.

PS. The pink stuff that was spread around the game made up a really nice character and I loved it. So much you need to feel cared for. Those gifts and phrases were almost key to keep me going. Without it the game would be very depressive with all the negative words it pushes on you.

P.P.S. I want that soundtrack. Too soothing to pass by.

This game has a really good feel to it, though it's really quite hard. I'm very bad at it! I had a lot of fun though, and i think the ASCII graphics work super well. Nice work!

Fun game and the spells felt great to cast. Lagged and crashed in firefox for me so I had to replay in chrome. Beat the whole thing, loved the way the overpowered spell sounded with a powerful but low bass sound. Only critique is that I didn't personally understand the message and how it connected to the theme.

Thanks for rating our game!

It's amazing what you were able to accomplish with only ascii art, the wands are probably my favorite part. Looking at the picture I was expecting some low quality game, but was plesently surprised. The music was spot on as well.

This makes me think of "Stone Story RPG" meets "Noita", two recent indie games that I have been playing a lot lately and are both great references to create new games. I particularly enjoyed the different spells and the messages midst all the letters ... player animations would be a great addition in the future ... very solid entry! One of my favorites for style
