Reutemeteut (web) by croewens

[raw]
made by croewens for Ludum Dare 45 (JAM)

Reutemeteut. A Super Meat Boy-like platformer, for the web. I focussed on writing a game in a total new engine, perfectly in line with the theme 'Start from nothing', I guess... Made using Typescript, React and Matter-js. I had way more plans for the game, but 72h only got me this far. Have fun!

72 hours went by fast, hence the crappy graphics, but I'd like you to focus on the flow / feel. Any questions / suggestions? Let me know!

Game takes about 10 minutes to finish. Make sure to use your Ludum Dare username!

A don't like platformers at all, but you and a few others made games that are so cool even I took notice, add some graphics and animation, and I'm in for paying cash

Nice platformer! Starting out of the gate with one or two shorter levels (but still levels with saws/other hazards) would have been nice, that way players can acclimate to the game's physics while still making some incremental progress/changing up the scenery. EDIT: Also introducing the wall jump in a safer space, if I hadn't seen you do it in the clip I wouldn't have thought I could wall jump far enough to clear that gap after the first several times I failed.

Game stops after clearing the second level, although the leven select screen shows four.

Really liked the mechanics! The wall jumping is very satisfying.

Nice interpretation on the theme, too!

I'm digging the physics-based movement of the player with the ability to accelerate and decelerate extremely quickly. It reminds me a lot of Happy Wheels, which I spent hours playing way back when it was popular. The beginning menu also looks great and really well done. Add some more sound and visual effects and you got yourself a really fun game.

Simple, but very fun game. Some more particle effects, lighting, sound fx that would make it more visually exciting and appealing would help.

I'm not a fan of really bouncy movement in a platformer, so this was a bit frustrating for me to play, but I can appreciate the effort that goes into making a game truly from scratch. I liked the simple visuals, especially when dying, and I noticed that the triangle spikes seemed to change each runthrough so that's a neat detail. Not bad, just not my cup of tea.

Simple but pretty fun (and hard!). Good job!

It's unforgiving like Super Meat Boy xD I like it... For the jumping I wish that the downwards velocity of the jump would be a little bit higher, so it doesn't float that long :)

So bouncy! It's fun, but it felt hard to control sometimes when I was bouncing around off all the surfaces

Controls feels like from Super Meat Boy and i can't control our ball perhaps because i am too used to Celeste controls, estetics are nice, HitBoxes of saw or overall our character could be a bit more forgiving because sometimes it feels unfair when it looks like we are just dying in the air... also Wall-Jumps are done well, overall nice platformer : )

The game doesn't seem to work for me.

Every time I start in the first level and press left or right, the ball just continues to go in that direction, no matter what other buttons I press, jumping only works at the very start but not after I begin moving. After I fall and the Level resets, it the ball moves left/right again without pressing anything. The reset button also doesn't work.

Very cool! I actually like the super minimalist art style, really lets you focus on the game. The controls were a little too floaty for me, but a lot of fun!

The player movement was a bit too slow for me, but overall it's a nice game :) A bit of level polishing, lighting and textures and this could go live :)

This is a very slick entry! I don't think the graphics are crappy, they do what they have to do (communicate). The controls feel very good, I felt like I was in control, and any deaths were my own mistake. It could use some audio, and maybe some more "juiciness", but overall a very solid entry!

This was most fun for me to play of the entries so far. I don't see much correlation to the theme, but good job!

Fun game. At first I thought the ball had too much inertia but I got used to it. Level design is interesting and I usually hate wall-jumping mechanics cause they tend to feel unnatural but I think you did a really good job with it here. I especially like how u can use the wall jumping to save yourself from death, but it is not so forgiving that it works every time. Like others said, the most important thing about graphics is that they communicate clearly what needs to be known about the gameplay. I think you did a great job with that here!

Pretty floaty for a platformer, I don't feel like I had much control. That said, I liked the walljumping, and the art was minimalist and effective.

Hey, i have a really nice time enjoying your game! I like the genre very much and miss more games in this line.

I would love to play these levels again with some visual and sound feedback. There are a lot of cool YouTube videos about Gamefeel that would be very inspiring for your game.

Congrats! Thanks a lot, had a lot of fun! :D

Overall: Nice platformer! Where's the theme?

Fun: Good - I like how this game gets to the point, with difficult levels, right from the beginning. I definitely see the SMB similarities. I'm actually glad that this game is fairly short - due to the difficulty, if it were much longer, it would be pretty soul-destroying. BTW, I like how effective the blood splatter effect is.

Innovation: The gameplay is completely standard; of course, the levels are original.

Theme: Not relevant to the theme, unless I missed something?

Not sure how it fits the theme, but it's a solid platformer with mechanics similar to Super Meat Boy. Good job!

great game but it doesn't fit the theme, i'm not a platform player but i think your difficulty increase really fast, but your level design is cool.

I am now an expert at level 3, up until the final sawblades that is  Did eventually manage to beat it though. I think even though there is only 4 levels they give a good representation of what the game is capable of, ranging from simple to really challenging. The only issue I think is that the platforms aren't all lined up perfectly, but that's being picky and I've no doubt that was just a time thing. Good job!

Great job at cloning the Super Meatboy mechanics! I especially loved the death sequence.

- Surprisingly, I think main character graphics would make wall jumping a bit easier because it creates a visual cue.
- I wish SPACE was jump :joy:

As mentioned before, the comparaison with super meat boy is quite obvious (and deserved)
The game was too hard, couldn't finish it, but I guess I couldn't finish super meat boy either so ... :stuck_out_tongue:

Challenging, fun game. I included it in my Ludum Dare 45 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :) https://youtu.be/RIViZJOE9ps

The game suffers from some stutters and framedrops on my machine, unfortunately. An additional thing that trips me up is the wall jumping. As the player controls a yellow ball, there is no real visual cue that the wall jump is possible at any given time.

Very challenging and fun game! I think that the first few levels could be a little easier for the player to get used to the game. Anyway good job!

Had so much fun playing this! It wasn't like a normal platformer, and it was really hard! (Couldn't complete the second level :) )

I liked this game a lot, but as others mentioned, there are some problems with it.

The theme is not apparent.

Inertia (in my opinion) is too large.

Maybe some SFX...?

Otherwise, I've had a lot of fun playing it.

Felt a bit sluggish to play, but was well made. Would suggest tightening up movement a little bit, but great job!
