Jack's Revelation by Mr. Chocolate Salmon

[raw]
made by Mr. Chocolate Salmon for LD34 (JAM)
I feel much more confident in producing a finished game this time around. Last time I practically gave up on my idea on the last day and made a new game in 3 hours. This time, I planned it and wrote it all out before I started, and literally just finished the game with moments to go. I did have to cut features, it's a "finished?" game that can be won (just unlock all the powers then try to find the entrance in the top right of the world.)

Start with only 2 abilities - Respawning ('R') and the Shockwave ('X').
The next abilities are unlocked in this order, by collecting the 'power' squares:

- Jumping (Space)

- Left/Right movement ('A' & 'D' or 'left' & 'right')

- Transform ('F' - for zombie)
('F' while holding 'S' or 'down' - for metal (if standing above it))

- Laser from da brain ('left control')

- Hover / Charged Jump
('Shift' (in the air) / Holding 'Shift' when pressing 'Space')

Hey thanks for the feedback on my game, so I gave your game a shot. To be very honest, the correct term for this game would be "incomplete". That being said it has potential to be a great platformer. Seeing your gamejolt enty im pretty sure you are still working on it! ;)

So what immediately shows are some bugs, for instance unable to move at start and getting killed randomly after respawning (not the lava bug). But im those will get fixed in later version.

What i like are the graphics, even thou there isnt a whole lot of it, but it shows that you have put in time in the details of the sprites you've made.

About the gameplay, concept is there but just needs some tweaking and some further work. Walking AI would be a great addition to start with (encoutered a green dude that only walks when i press X, dunno whats up with that).

My final verdict would be 3/5 on overall. The has potential, but it just needs a shove in the back ;) (also rated 4/5 on graphics, I like them!)

Hey, thankyou for the honest review. Moving left and right and the second ability you unlock. In the beginning, the only powers you have are the respawn and shockwave ability. When dropping down, you unlock the jumping ability. And then upon respawning and jumping you'll unlock moving :)
I am still working on the random deaths after respawning though

cool idea, I would have liked some indication of if I was close to a power, but I like the idea of puzzling with the abilities you have to get new ones and then doubling back.

Neat little game! I wasn't a fan of the rigid movement, but the interesting powers made up for that.
Not sure how it fits into either of the themes though.
