@benjamin I was hoping to see another entry from you and once again I was not disappointed! I'm amazed at what you can accomplish in PICO-8. The game is super fluid and really fun to play! It has a nice balance of difficulty and fits the theme perfectly. Love the graphics, particle and screen effects. Awesome job overall once again!

@karlipoppins Looks really good, awesome implementation of the idea, but the controls are a let down

As said before controls were a bit difficult but the game has a really neat feel. I like your implementation of the theme.

This game has an insane level of detail! The enemies, all the platforms like: leaves, flowers and strawberries, the different parts you collect, all the power ups you get in between retries with gameplay effects and visuals.

I have seen lots of games earlier that have a shop / upgrade screen when you die or complete a level, but it's nice to just get it and when most of the upgrades have a direct gameplay effect (or fun cosmetics) instead of being a numerical addition. Collecting the parts x generated levels also works very well, instead of the standard formula survival/progression x generated level. Because you will eventually beat the level because of the upgrades and number of tries.

it looks great and i like the idea but the controls especially the aiming is quite difficult

The amount of items you can equip is crazy, as usual, for a compo entry :) My only major grief is with the controls: why do you create complicated control schemes when simple solutions would just work (ie. the gun aiming)? :P

Also, many items have super obscure effects and if you skip reading the description (happened accidentally a few times), you cannot guess what effect they have. I would definitely recommend less items and more polish on controls, but that's a very personal approach here ^^

Anyway, I probably died 20-25 times before beating the game but it was still definitely fun :)

Beat it in 9 deaths (first attempt)! I'll have to echo the others' sentiment that the controls aren't great. I loved that you could pick up the enemies and once I realized this I stopped using the gun since it was so much easier. Apart from that, this is a fantastic entry! The graphics, polish, and details are all really well done. And that first animation when you start playing, lol :joy:

Great game. I think this is the first Pico-8 game I have played and I enjoyed it a lot. The graphics are really good and I was impressed with the level of power-ups we have when we die. My only complaints are that the gun was hard to control and it felt weak.
I beat it in 14 deaths. You did a good job!

What a lovely game!
I died a lot, but thats the point, I think ;) As other said, the amount of items and content is really strong for a compo game, and I loved the pixel art.

This game is amazing! I can't believe how many upgrades you managed to fit.
There's also some great art. And I really like the scene transition effects (like when I die).
Super polished.

Favorite pico 8 one so far, the environment is lovely and makes me remind of that movie where the kids are shrunk and have an ant friend

there was a kinda frustrating part though ... the way it rotates the weapon as he turns caused me to die very often in this situation:

the bettle would approach and I could not move the weapon without also walking towards him, so death was common:

that said ... little did I know that in that moment, after a sequence of frustrating deaths, I would have my sweet revenge:

DIE you beetle die!!
That made this game already worth it

Really solid entry!

Apart for the controls, the game felt really polished: huge amount of upgrades, tiny cosmetics items, level details, etc... The level even seemed to change after collecting some pieces of metal?

Great game!
