MiteLing by Morago

[raw]
made by Morago for Ludum Dare 45 (JAM)

You are nothing but a tiny little MiteLing right now. Will you be able to survive the onslaught of evil octopi to ensure the prosperity of your kind by collecting apples? Or will you push your clones to sacrifice them to ensure your own safety?

My first entry in a game jam. While this game is probably something that someone could have made in 10 minutes, and there are still some bugs, I still learned a lot participating and had fun.

Known Bugs - Entities spawn within the walls - Resolutions aren't a perfect match in some cases. - Evil Octopi can sometimes spawn very close to the player, leading the player to die before they have adequate time to react.

Very cute characters, even though minimalistic and simple. Controls are good, and the game premise is nice too, congrats on your first jam!

Overall: A fun and creative form of combat!

Fun: I think this is a very fun concept. I enjoyed pushing my clones around and using them to defeat the enemies. I wish there was either an end goal, or at least a score (maybe just how long you survived?), so that I have some measurement of success. I sometimes found that the clones would end up all migrating to the right edge - after that they are kind of tricky to make use of.

Innovation: Good! I haven't seen this method of combat in a game.

Theme: Yes.

Graphics: Simple but suitable. I might have shaded the clones and enemies different colours, so the player can more quickly tell enemies from friends without looking directly at them.

Humor: Sure, it's a funny concept, pushing my clones to their death.

It's a fun game. The concept of attacking the enemy by cloning oneself is interesting. I wish there was a change in the level. The position of enemies, items, and replicas is strange. There is a case in the wall or in the wall.

Interesting idea, I wasn't sure what to do at first but figured it out. I did have some issues with enemies and clones sometimes spawning underneath the blocks on the level, which made progression difficult / impossible.
