Cellar's Nocturne by Dane Tesla

[raw]
made by Dane Tesla for Ludum Dare 47 (JAM)

SCRE2.png

It started with my grandma singing to herself while preparing meals. Then she got lost in the basement searching for a strawberry jam and we found her sitting on the chair, moving her head up and down to an unknown tune. She was away for minutes, hours, days and then she started dancing in our basement. But it’s not the worst part.

The worst part is I hear the music, too.

[DESCRIPTION]

Cellar's Nocturne is another weird game provided by Serious Games Manufacture team. This time we present an experimental adventure point-and-click horror with a retro (2000's) vibe to it. You're a nameless person who is searching for their grandma in a weird, creepy, enormous and most importantly LOOPING basement. There is many things that loop in this game: grandma's dance, the cellar, the music and finally the game itself.

Explore the rooms and discover the secrets of Cellar's Nocturne. We recomment playing this game in the darknkess with headphones on for the best esperience!

That game is awesome! Photos, art and music are all on point! I enjoyed it very much! Very scary though :(
Looks like you are not rating other games and your game is not receiving attention it can. You should rate other people's games and leave feedback and then your game will be shown to more people.

I really liked how you used real photos and pixelated them to make it look like game art! You did a really job making the art and gameplay work well over the photos, but I would still like to see more variety of things to interact with in the rooms. I also think the timing or position of the jumpscares should be modified because usually when you are moving you are looking at the map, so when you move and the jumpscare happens on the other side of the screen it isn't as scary. Eventually, I was able to beat the game, but I got stuck and had to restart a few times because the interactable spirit was either missing or glitched out and couldn't be clicked on.

**Just a heads up to anyone else: I got a black screen when trying to play this in Win 10. It worked when I ran it in compatibility mode with the "Windows 7" option.**

I thought it was amazing how much content you managed to get into the game. Using real photos and then applying an effect to them really worked well, and I thought it was great that you randomized the rooms every time to give some replayability.

The audio did it's job of enhancing the creepiness of this game and everything meshed well together all in all.

Very well done! Thanks for making this little gem :)

I like that you took realistic photos and pixelated them, to put them into your game. Nice sound and art style.
The transition fade from one room to another didn't work quite properly, this interefered with my immersion. The integrated loop is a interesting idea, but it gets a bit repetitive, when you have to remove the monsters in rooms, where you have already done that.

I really like how stylysh the game is. Good work with post effects and the UI integrated into the world. Best of luck!

Absolutely love the lo-fi photo aesthetic! Sound and atmosphere are great too. Takes a little while to work out what the game wants you to do (some of the "help" text at the start perhaps over-complicated things a bit?) but once you know what you're doing it's fun :)

This has such high quality, it is stunning! Congratulations guys, the game is excelent!

I only had one bug: in the room of the "dust dog", I have clicked the spirit but the animation kept repeating in a loop, and I couldn't move. I restarted the game and got to that same room again, but then clicking on the spirit worked correctly.
