Singularity by PixelMonkey

[raw]
made by PixelMonkey for Ludum Dare 45 (COMPO)

Controls: A/D or Left/Right to move left and right

W, Up, or Spacebar to jump

A simple platformer.

I went pretty light on gameplay this time around, and ended up spending most of my time playing with some effects and stuff that I was unfamiliar with.

Really cool game! The graphics and sounds compliment eachother really nicely and although its just a simple platformer I had a ton of fun playing and it was very satisfying to hit the return key and get the next level transition and sound after every level!

This game feels more like an experience than a game. It is as simple of a platformer as you say it is, but its topped with a beautiful aesthetic and it became something of its own. Gameplay wise, theres not a lot to the game, but at least theres plenty of levels and its eye candy throughout.

I like the visual style. The platforming is solid. I think with some extra hooks, maybe some new movement abilities, you could take this to market with this aesthetic and level of mechanical polish.

Nice visuals and sounds. Really cool that you fall back into level after falling off

Great graphics. The game play is very enjoyable considering how simplistic it is. This is a stupid nitpick, but it feels like the pitch of the pickup sound should be increasing with every pickup you pick up.

Looks simple and nice, but gameplay is boring. Need more stuff, maybe with jumping system - double jump, auto jump, anything to give more freedom and fun.

Awesome effects, I loved it all throughout! Improving the platforming and adding some polish would make this a 5/5.

Incredibly stylish, a great effort in style and minimalism.
It's what it says on the tin, a simple platformer, but the visuals really steal the show!

the level design is just amazing. How did you manage to create that many levels in such short amount of time, all with actually interesting puzzles. The graphics otherwise is good too with nice particle effects. Some of the puzzles take several attempts to master and this game definitely lasted longer than most of the LD games I've seen this time. Good job.

Quaint! Though I think inconsistency in visual style was a notable issue. Some objects such as platforms and buildings are hard-edged and blocky. In contrast to this, the foggy background, player (big emphasis on the player) and rocky objects are considerably rougher and more realistic. This was discomforting.

There's also inconsistency in the level of detail, e.g. between the rods on the sides of the buildings versus the buildings themselves.

Overall it's a nice, almost watercolor feeling to it. The particle effects could use more work, the "tail" for example looks great and misty when standing still, but it could use some size variation and a more interesting spread when moving.
Other than that you managed a very nice foggy/windy atmosphere. Would look great with some animated background elements swaying violently

I love the simple style you went for, it's got a very peaceful atmosphere. The gameplay is simple but it makes for an overall relaxing experience. I also really like the transition to restart the level when you lose, it's so smooth and seamless!

Gameplay was standard but those were some very nice visual effects :)
The style of the bi-coloured scenery is nice too!

Enjoyed your game! The visual style, although simple, was very effective. I enjoyed the puzzles a great deal. I especially enjoyed that if you fall, the level reloads seamlessly. Well done!

Thanks for the feedback!

@jasper-hansen Little details like that would be nice to have, yeah. Fun to think about what little things could be done differently!
