Deer Game by kantieno

[raw]
made by kantieno for Ludum Dare 45 (JAM)

As future guardian of the forest you must travel the land, talk with the other inhabitants and discover what kind of guardian you are.

This game is split into two phases. The first phase is a personality test; after you answer the questions of the 5 creatures spread across the land, your powers will be revealed and it will be time to confront the creature spreading corruption across the land.

Arrows/WASD : Move/Jump

Z/J : Primary attack (after powers have been acquired)

X/K : Secondary attack

R : Restart

The personality test was an interesting start. Nice graphics, very consistent throughout. Would be nice to revive instead of restart when you die, but I guess that just opens up the opportunity to try different guardian types. Congrats on the submission!

Interesting concept! I'm not sure how a personality test fits with shooting abilities though :stuck_out_tongue: I love the art and animation

I love the graphics but I think the two parts of the game are kind of detached from each other? I mean the calm walk through the woods feels very nice but the boss fight I don't think it really adds much to the game overall :)

Lovely art and very interesting idea with the questions at the start, I did take me quite a bit to figure out that you can jump on the pillars. A Checkpoint would not have gone a-miss :D

I really liked the character build quiz concept!
The game could have felt more polished with some simple sound effects and ambient sounds matching the environment artwork.
Artwork and the play animations are really cool.
Thank you for making this game!

Really liked the art, movement felt tight and the overall presentation is really nice. I think it's a bit short though.

Awesome art, would've loved some sound, I bet it'd make an AWESOME world together with some ambient sounds or forest-y music. I would've loved an explanation in-game to see what abilities come from which personality!

Overall a solid entry.

I really enjoyed the personality test to determine your powers, and the art and animation was wonderful! One of my powers seemed pretty hard to use in the boss battle. I had the one that went along the ground, and the stone toss. The stone toss seemed like the only useful power against the boss.

The self-discovery element that determines your attacks is a really cool idea, although the boss fight was a bit hard. It let me explore different attack combos and strategies, though! Shame about the lack of sound, but other than that it was a very nice experience.

Nice idea. But i think that chosing j and x as the attacks felt kinda odd. otherwise great game(+artstyle)

Controls were very smooth and the jumping of the deer looked really good. Graphics were also very charming. Sound would have gone a long way, though. Boss battle at the temple was rather difficult. Overall, a fun submission; nice job!

I really liked the idea of the personality quiz to determine your powers, and the graphics were really nice. The shooter part of the game was a little bit weaker, but I think that's because there wasn't a lot of feedback when you were hitting the enemy or getting hit. Otherwise, great work!
