DEVELOPMENT
Vast majority of the code and much of the UI by @ciaranw . Graphics, level design and story by @teto .
Our second jam together! After churning out a ridiculous amount of content for LD46 and not getting time to polish the game, we decided that a simpler game with less content and more polish would be the way to go especially since I (Teto) had to work for 9 hours on the Saturday. This is not what happened and yet again, I drew over 150 individual graphics and Ciaran churned out a stupid amount of code...
It took us quite a while to come up with the initial idea but once it came (and sleep and work was out the way) the idea spiralled and became more complex than we would have initially wanted. However, despite not having time to add any sound at all this time round or do all the animation tweaks, we managed to produce this cute lil' game!
With UI being a big feature in this game and only Ciaran having very limited knowledge of how to create a UI, this was a big challenge for us with a lot of tutorial watching and googling being done. There were quite a few things we'd originally wanted to add that didn't make it into the game because of how time consuming creating the UI was but it was definitely a greatly educational crash course!
Only managed to do a playthrough after release which revealed a few minor bugs which we sorted after work the next day to release it all fully working on browser! It was nice for Ciaran to see the puzzles for the first time and try and solve them which allowed us to make a couple of tweaks to balance the difficulty a little by adding resources and made sure the levels worked properly.
We hope to do a post-jam version including all the features that we made but didn't manage to include so stay tuned and thanks for reading!

But there is a lot of text! After the half of the first phase I just skipped the texts...
But of course this is just a small thing, overal, I liked the game, great job!
@jelle-vermandere Thanks for the feedback! The only reason you have to get quite a few robots for example, is because when we originally set it to only need to make 1 arrow plate to move on, you could go to the next level from the beginning since you start the level with that many already and we didn't get time to make the button smarter so we just had to up the requirements to move on. Glad you liked thhe game overall though and, if we do a post-jam version, this will definitely be something we look at to reduce the sitting around!
@monninen Thanks so much!
My only recommendation : maybe make the levels shorter. In level 2 for example, doing 5 time the task doesn't bring much gratification than having figured it out once. But all in all, a good game ! congrats !
(I wonder if it's possible to cheese some of the levels by placing and picking up robots over and over rather than making a loop to take them back to the start...)
also am I doing it right? :joy:

@aquanim I liked his eyes too! His eyes created his characted mainly because I wanted to use the angry eyes! And shhhhh... Don't tell the people that it's possible to solve without actually solving haha!
As said above, there is too much text: it is nice to have some to explain the mechanics or introduce a new block but explaining every time the situation, the goal, what you are building... is a bit too much. I also agree on the "one item to complete level" from Jelle: making more is just waiting for your loop to repeat while doing nothing and it can be quite boring (the third level is my main example of that: you have to wait a very long time, I almost thought the game was bugged due to the time I had to wait before it completed the level). Finally, a background music and some sound effect would have been a nice touch to give the feeling of a completed game.
Overall, these critics are more on the detail side as it is a pretty solid entry: level design and mechanics are solid, graphics are cool and I liked some of the jokes of the robot
@dark-prince-zen Glad to hear you enjoyed the dialogue although there was a lot of it! There's still so much content we made that we couldn't put in the gameplay because we ran out of time with the UI. Hopefully we will be able to put time aside to work on it more and we are thinking to release it on the play store just to have an experience of releasing something :)
Would love an objectives display for how much there is left to make of the required parts. Great game, even without sound I was enjoying myself. Audio would have topped this off nicely, hope to see this after you put more time post jam.
@arron-fowler Thank you! Unfortunately ran out of time for sound but we'll definitely add it for post-jam version!
It would be great if the tutorial waited for the user to follow the instructions, many times I thought I needed to do something, only to accidentally cycle through messages before having a chance to read them.
@olafstromberg Thank you! It should be solvable with the 4 tiles and 2 bots you're given so let us know if there was another issue with that level and we can try to fix it!
I also got stuck on level 2 for a long time trying to figure out how to make the robots even start moving, yet alone do something useful. All that text never mentions that you have to put the robots on the arrows to make them go until somewhere on level 3.
@flying-dog-fish Ahh I didn't realise it doesn't mention until level 3! Will definitely fix that for the future thank you! Apologies for the excess of text... Really was just put in quite last minute so didn't get a chance to refine and make it more concise and, as I said before, we had intended to have it so you could do things at the same time and split it through the level so it wouldn't have been one huge chunk but unfortunately,didn't get time.
@demuss Unfortunately we know it has farrrr too much text but glad you enjoyed the game enough to skip through it all to get to the gameplay haha! :P
Also, a nice touch to add some narrative to the game. The simple animations added a lot to the feeling
@tannimun Really glad to hear you enjoyed it!
@balance686 Thank you! We hadn't actually thought of that so that's definitely something we would want to add! As well as a levels menu.
@sli So great to hear you enjoyed it to play for so long! Unfortunately, with the UI for placing the various different things being so complicated and time consuming, there ended up being no function to be able to place them which I didn’t realise when u was doing the level design since Ciaran was doing the build menu at the same time. We left it because, honestly, we didn't think anyone would play that far! The initial idea was to be able to build everything including the little machines which is all there ready to be implemented, they jist can't be placed since we ran out of time which is really frustrating 😅 Anyway, thank you so much and I hope you play our post-jam version when we get some time to finish it!
@jenny-bourke Haha thank you!
This was great! I really enjoyed the last level especially.
@ddrkirbyisq It started off as a much simpler idea but the different tiles just kind of came as we went along! I really struggled making the levels since I've never done anything like it before so it's great to hear they were good. Glad you had fun!
Really appreciated the humour in this! The little bump the building bots do after encountering an obstacle also makes the game feel very polished for some reason!
Liked the "crafting" and building component to the puzzles especially!
Artie's eyes changing color and shape was a great touch!
@jonathanwang Thanks for the feedback! We'll try and look into it and try and make it smoother!
@pawciu Thank you!
@sakura-magika Thank you so much! We did try to make it as self sustaining a loop as we could!
