The Little Adventure for Slime by mimusangel
Hi ! We are a group a friends who like to make games. Also we're french, please pardon our english.
Mimus at the code and level design on Unity, Nephelias at 3d modeling on Blender, and Lukein at 3d modeling on Blender and some textures and icons on paint. (do not judge too quickly guys!) We didn't make the sounds, music and the water texture ourselves.
This time around we began slowly, picking up an idea to develop : A sidescroll 3d platformer !
You'll play as a little slime who needs to return to his home. The poor little slime lost slimy parts you'll have to gather on your way to recover some capabilities. Like spliting in two, jump or walljump to name a few. We recommend to use arrow keys to move, it is way easier.
Programs we used: - Unity - Blender - Paint. I swear it's looking good. - Audacity just to cut out sounds from source.
Control: (if you got the bonuses to use them) - Left / Right Arrow: Move to Left or Right - Up / Down Arrow: Spiked mode to attack enemies - Space: Jump - Tab: Split slime - Ctrl: Join slime (In proximity) - Mouse Click: Change slime you control - C: On Ground Transform into Cube, in Air Transform into Anvil - V: Pancake mode to plane
Sources: - Water texture: https://www.deviantart.com/berserkitty/art/Seamless-Cartoon-styled-Water-Texture-743787929 - Sounds : https://opengameart.org/content/atmospheric-interaction-sound-pack - Music : https://opengameart.org/content/pack-of-loopable-game-music - Slime sound : https://opengameart.org/content/40-cc0-water-splash-slime-sfx!
Patch: (After Deadline) - Corrected Controls - Reworked Jump - Reduced Animation Time - Simplified The Wall Jump Tower

The only thing I can critizise is that there are no check points (as far as I can tell) and that I had to restart from the beginning after making good progress. Other than that, solid work!
You could improve the controls (the character physics)
The game has a ton of content and cool modelisations !
Might have been unlucky with my machine, but ther than that I loved the graphics, the theme fit, the mood and the ideas! Congrats guys :)
Using the fixed update, the beginning of the page use, update, but more control bug, like the double jump that ran illogically at the same time as the jump ...
Sinon c'est neat que vous ayez utilisé la propriété du slime à se transformer, c'est rigolo, gg à vous
I am both agree and disagree with you for the controls, because often we are told the controls are done in the update but the use of velocity in the FixedUpdate, off using the controls I set Velocity to have total control over it. I do not think it's "normally", since it has redundant Input bug in the update and input bugs that do not run in the FixedUpdate. After I think I still have a lot of gap on the use engine unity, that's why I made game jam, I learn a lot like that
Anyway, thanks for your feedback !
Other than that, it had some cool mechanics and made me feel a little bit smart when I used them correctly.
As many have said, the controls are not that great. Sometimes the keys don't even register and you have to spam them to get through. I do think some animations could be a bit faster to make it smoother, but there has be something on the coding side that is the culprit here.
I'm also french, so please pardon my english too.
Keep up the good work!
Thank you for taking the time to play and enjoy the game despite the control bugs. And especially thank you for your comment!
Sadly I got really frustrated by the controls. Generally the double jump, split and cube/anvil transformation buttons sometimes work, but mostly dont or only while hammering them. It feels like you are only processing one button press at a time (no jumping or splitting while moving etc). Additionally all the controls are pretty awkward to keep your hands on at the same time (tab, space and control)
Make sure that you check all buttons down in the runs of the update/fixed update functions and if you have problems with the same button press triggering in multiple runs of the update function try using Input.GetButtonDown since that only returns true in the frame that the button was pressed.
I also got weirdly stuck in walls and jumping felt very floaty. Still I like the general concept.
We got 3days to make a game, we did our best in this time frame, there are some bugs. Feels bad, but that's the way it is. And it also means we got things to improve for our futur projects and entries.
Thanks for you com' ! We decided to make a patch of controls. Feel free to test the game if you want. Thanks Google Translate
Anyway, I appreciate that you worked based of the feedback we gave and I could appreciate your work much more, so thanks! You must have learned a lot from this experience :)
For the animation part, as far as I know it is all physic based. Hence some weird behaviours. This time around we wanted to experiment with blendshapes. (the slime morphing into different shapes and forms) So I had to learn things during the jam. Not much time left to put into rigging and animating, then. (Plus, it is a skill I have yet to master too.)
But we'll take this into account for futur projects. Another thing we figured out during this jam is that our games aren't enough "juicy". Let's just say our next game will be way better!
