VHS Rental - A retail nightmare by Irrithyll

[raw]
made by Irrithyll for LD36 (COMPO)
Some people are telling you that VHS tapes are obsolete "ancient" technology. Lies! You wont let this rental store go out of business!

Suffer through your shift at the video rental store, where you must assist helpless customers in renting the movie they're really looking for.

Each customer will give you a clue as to what movie they really want to rent, click on the movie that matches to earn the business money!

Click on the movie they really want +$15
Click on a movie of a matching genre but not the right movie +$10
Click on the wrong movie and they trash your VHS tape -$25

Good luck!
Post your scores!

Notes:
This is my second ever Ludum Dare, and the first I've committed more than a few hours to.
Unfortunately I ran out of time this weekend and couldn't develop sound effects or music! This is something I would love to work on for my next Ludum Dare. Overall I'm pretty satisfied with my efforts and if I had more time, I would have improved the flow of the game, as well as added visual reinforcement of successful actions.

Hi, nice game and congratulations ! We're realizing a video with several games of the Ludum Dare #36. We made the same thing at the previous jam.

Can you add your game on indiexpo.net ? (it's free)
So we can include also your game in the video ;)
p.s. write #LDJAM in the game's description.

Nice game. Very stressfull to be on a VHS rental :) Loved the graphics and the movie covers. After a couple of tries I knew almost all the movies in it so bit more movie diversity would have mademeoccupied for a lot longer.
Very nice entry :)

ah, our game was set in a VHS rental store too!! i love to find out people had a similar thought process in regards to the theme, haha.

i really liked the game, it was a bit simplistic, but i loved the humor from the parody movie covers. i do wish there had been more movies to choose from, so as not to have repeats in the same shelf, but for the amount of time you had to work on it i think you accomplished more than enough. i also thought the art was very cute and fitting. good job!

Text going out of box dialog while writing is a lack of polish. I guess you didn't had time for it.

Not telling to the player there is limited time is a bit disturbing. You should show timer to the player. Maybe you can show customer's patience as a timer.

Aside that, it's well realised and got nice art style.
