Kings Orders by BookerBlueJay

[raw]
made by BookerBlueJay for Ludum Dare 46 (COMPO)

"The King has ordered you to defend him as he suspects there are assassins trying to kill him. You know, he might be right...

...maybe"

This is my first ever submission to a Ludum Dare game-jam (or any jam) so it may be a bit rusty.

I failed the king eventually but it was a fun protection process! I liked the simplicity of animations (you don't need your hand to move to attack, you just need the sword to move to attack, right?)! = )

I hate the bats and I killed way too many peasants. Good one!

Nice graphics. Like the feedback the game gives. Sounds get a tad annoying later so thankyou for letting me mute it, lol. Great job overall

I really like it! Really cool concept, feels amazing to play especially. There's so much possibilities with a game like this in terms of mechanics and enemies/bosses

I enjoy the gameboy feel of it! The pixel art and animations were fun to watch and really good audio feedback all around. Did find that only the tip of your sword could hurt enemies. Not sure if that was intended but it made it very hard to hit the bats.

@mailman The entire sword has a hit box, but the way it launches when you attack can be disorienting, that came up during play-testing.

@bookerbluejay ah ok, I typically found it would happen if I swung when the bat was already over my sword and assumed it to be a small hit box. Very fun though!

Great arcade game! The sounds were fitting and the graphics were awesome. I really liked the addition of the peasants as another obstacle. It makes the game more difficult and that's a good thing in my opinion.
It's also pretty funny. I didn't know professional assassins used bats to kill their targets.

I love this one, great job!

Hey! Absolutely loved it! Best entry I've played in a while. So simple conceptually but it didn't get tedious or boring but got more fun as it went (good ramping). Cracked up the first time I accidentally killed a peasant and the King yelled at me!

Simple and polished! All ya need sometimes.
Glad you thought about my intial strat of just jumping and poking by adding the peasents, so good lad.

I'm a sucker for a simple arcade game with tight game feel.

Nice game loop! I felt the hitbox on the bats was a bit difficult though

Nice to see a pico-8 game!
Simple but quite a lot of fun. really shows you can do a lot with a very simple idea. The game is very polished for a jam game, and honestly feels like a complete release. One thing I'd maybe change is making the hitboxes of the bats a little more generous, it felt a little awkward to hit them at times. Overall a really great entry!
