A-Cornered by Chris Fagan

[raw]
made by Chris Fagan for Ludum Dare 47 (JAM)

How long can you survive the onslaught of winter to keep your nuts safe?

Run around the inside of your hollow tree to avoid snowballs, icicles, and a pesky little pill bug. Last for as long as you can before your health is depleted to 0.

Controls:

Keyboard:

A to run clockwise

D to run counterclockwise

Mobile:

Hold the left half of the screen to run clockwise

Hold the right half of the screen to run counterclockwise

The game was developed by my wife and I. She did all of the artwork in the game, while I scripted the game in Construct 3. We both worked on the overall design.

Thanks for playing our game! We hope you enjoyed it.

I love the graphic style that you choose, almost reminiscent of a yarn type look. The gameplay was overall pretty fun, simple, and entertaining.

@deedz Thank you! We're glad you enjoyed it :) My record on mobile is 69 seconds, my wife got 37 seconds. On PC I've had around 150 seconds. I'm sure there is someone out there that can beat these scores!

The artwork/graphics are great! The squirrel is super cute. The mini-game is simple, but flawless. Some kind of highscore screen could be a nice addition!

Loved the art ! I think the lack of visual clues or clear distinction between the objects and the background made it a bit hard to navigate at times. But else, good job !

Awww so cute! :chipmunk: Yeah I agree with everyone else that the art is really spot-on. I think I mostly got hit by the blue spikes... they can be hard to spot moving so fast. Something simple like placing a glow are shadow around the flying pieces as well as showing an alert on the screen where the projectile is coming from could be a huge help.

Also, thank you for giving our game Boomie multiple shots @chris-fagan while we figured out our crashes  Cheers!

@nikolai-shkurkin Thank you for the kind words about the artwork! We were super happy with how that turned out :)

Those are some fantastic suggestions for improving the readability of the projectiles... I wish we would have thought of those last week haha.

You're welcome! Great game jam all around :)

Hi all right, I love meeting other users who use the construct, I really liked their art style reminded me of some game games I saw made with blender, I have an observation that can make your art become more immersive, try to distance the elements using the shadow as a base, many times they don’t know the power of this tool is huge, I’ll be following you on the itch, if you want to know my games made in the construct I recommend seeing the vox_venture that I play with the feeling of depth, and also if you want to evaluate my game I am grateful, a big hug.

Cute game, with a cute title and cute art! And quite hard! :open_mouth: The blue pointy things were quite hard to avoid, since they are not very well visible. I would have liked to be able to restart the game with key in stead of mouse. I missed the impact sound of the purple ball, so I was hoping for a bit that it was increasing my health, but it wasn't.
Well done!

Thank you for the awesome game! The aesthetic of the game certainly got some feels to it. Though when I was playing the game, the long hit-box of the squirrel made it so hard to doge everything. That's just a part of the game, I guess.
